no i'm running fedora with a custom kernel
well it affects to much can you force yum to update
it can install a new kernel for all i care, it will make no
difference
Lawbringer, you cant because of your udev dep
Lawbringer, you once ran fedora now your are running a
bastardized fedora
but udev dep is a 2.6 kernel which i am running
which will not allow the kernel update
argh... this new nvidia driver upgrade is chapping my
hide.
Does anyone run FC6 with Beryl and a nvidia card and had glx
no longer work lately?
man yum on excludeing kernel and or udev
VileGent, i gave up after excluding about 20 packages
it's all to interdependent
Lawbringer, nothing we can do for you
ok well thanks anyway
complain to the provider that is enforceing this
Lawbringer, godaddy?
VileGent, a UK provider called memset
Kinda-sorta. glx works except for when I want to jump back to
command-line using ctrl + alt + backspace. The xserver fails to
shut down and it just leaves me with a black screen.
so if I want to get command line, I have to reboot the system.
VERY counterintuitive.
gen0?
Lawbringer, i would find another provider myself
VileGent?
is freshrpms or atrpms a better repo?
livna
i have livna
VileGent, well i probably am
don't use freshrpms and livna at the same time
yarddog, better in nuking your system
ok
thanks
they provide conflicting packages
yeah atrpms can do that in about 30 secs
so livna and fedora should be the only repos?
yarddog, what are you looking for
just setting up a stable system
You rang?
if i have some script i wanna execute on startup, where do i
put it?
yarddog, livna and fedora
thanks
gen0, you were complaining
Ah. Right. Sorry.
Let me rephrase.
you updated the kernel and rebooted and nvidia driver isnt
working
anyone?
which nvidia driver are you useing
do you have ebook snmpd for fc 6?
rimad, i pointed you to the information
Rute User's Tutorial and Exposition?
go read i have seen you ask info contained in those guides
repeatedly now
yep
nvidia driver halfway works. I'm using it now. nvidia driver
version is kmod-nvidia-100.14.09-1.2.6.20_1.2952.fc6 and
accompanying xorg-x11-drv-nvidia
dude, if you don't wanna help people here i suggest you keep
quiet...and don't be an arrogant person
i did this zillion times, i can't remember location
so relax
yea cool, now kick me out...but you know am right
rimad i wasnt being rude i directed you to the place to find
the answer to your question
you directed me to the manual with zillion pages man
rimad stuff you need to know
nevermind
go read it
gen0, uname -r
2.6.20-1.2952.fc6
and it isnt working?
(should've stated that before. My apologies)
Kinda-sorta.
btw there is a newer kernel
I'm able to get in regularly, but cannot get back out.
really? Yum update's not picking up on it...
gen0 yum -d 0 list kernel
rc.local :-)
Mine lists my current kernel as the most recent.
kernel.i586 2.6.20-1.2952.fc6 updates
opps you are running fc6
new kernel is in f7
Yep! So I take it new kernel development is shifting to FC7,
then? Last I checked, it looks like this release is only available
as a DVD ISO.
yep or the live cd
Looks like I'll have to upgrade to a DVD burner then.
you can install from the livecd though
Oh? Is there any difference?
gen0, yep the amount of packages included
you can't choose the packages when installing from the
livecd
oh noooo
Ok. Time to get a DVD burner then.
but after install it's normal fedora so you can install or
remove stuff
geno there is still the network and harddrive installs
Hmm...
My friend did supply me with a LiveCD... but I didn't think you
could install from it. Nifty.
Missing Dependency: fglrx-kmod-common = 8.37.6 is needed by

juannicolas, like i said go check the files in the repo
can u be more tech-specific?
brb (hopefully)
$SCREENDIR can override.
That's good to know.
juannicolas, i dont see how i can be any more specific than
that
juannicolas, open a web browser go to rpm.livna.org
look in the files to see if it exist

Hi I just install Core 7 I also set up ndiswrapper and got

hi
seems like the radeon driver is better in some aspects than
fglrx
i seem to be having trouble compiling a kernel in fc7. I have
kernel-devel and kernel-headers installed, yet make and make
modules both fail
any assistance?
what is wrong with the default kernel?
thanks worked like a charm
why you need to compile it ?
i think it's missing a module for my pata
what is the status of the nouveau driver?
i need a module amd74xx or something close to that
and i don't have it in /lib/modules/`uname
-r`/kernel/drivers/ata
Should I use it or nvidia's will nouveau give 3d and info on
seting it up?
nouveau's 3d isn't ready yet
verbatim, thanks
either way, why shouldn't i be able to compile the kernel
myself

only stinking bot here is me
why you did not toll me that before

what sort of special magic is needed to compile a kernel :/
even make clean fails!!
WTF
my webcam has just made me an avi file. what program do i need
to turn that into a series of jpegs or pngs? i want to do a few
basic changes to all of them (colour level shift), chop out a
certain range of frames and the save
s/the/then/
the only thing that works is make menuconfig :P
do you have gcc installed?
yes
are you trying to recompile the kernel srpms ?
try make distclean

oops, nope
make distclean

sweet. where'd you get this source code? perhaps you forgot

anyone using gotomypc's web java hosting client thingy
in FC7?

kernel-headers-2.6.21-1.3194.fc7
kernel-devel-2.6.21-1.3194.fc7
thanks for flooding the channel with nonsense!
how is that nonsense
if i was missing packages
thats not the newest kernel update
yum update kernel isn't showing any updates
just yum update
i did an hour ago
1 EDT 2007 i686 i686 i386
No Packages marked for Update/Obsoletion
3228 is the newest
you must be running from fedora-testing
i don't have that repo installed
me?
lol
no
ok i will yum clean all
and yum update
yum -d 0 list kernel
Installed Packages
kernel.x86_64 2.6.21-1.3194.fc7 installed

kernel.x86_64 2.6.21-1.3228.fc7 updates
yup
ninjagumby, you are getting out of sync mirrors
ok
actually, i think i might have not had fedora-updates
enabled
if all else use the baseurl instead of the mirrorlist
which is weird, since i had 950mb of updates the otehr
day
in f7?
yea?
not that many updates yet
i dont think F7 has had that much
HM
sounds like you did a yum upgrade
nah
did that a week ago
it's got 300mb of updates
had some today too
updating now
that is weird.
not that much though
307 M
heh
you got something wrong
it's updating 100 packages
lol wtf
no way
iono man
i must have a leet version of yum :P
I just updated and got a few but not that many
well, some people might have a lot more packages installed than
others
they addressed the kernel issue today that has been going
around
what was that?
compilation issues?
no
it was an updating issue
there we go
much faster mirror
When I try to yum update it says "mkinitrd = 6.0.9-7.1 is
needed by package kernel" and I have "6.0.9-5" installed, how do I
force that package to update
thats the one
wait a day or so
ah
its updating
Oh it's not just me?
nope
widespread
all over the email list
too
nah, just try again till you hit a mirror that has that junk.
it's working for me as we speak
yeah, it was updated today i think
mm, more than a meg a sec
I've tried a bunch of times
i love HSI
I'll just wait
16 meg in 11 sec
according to the release notes, the intel gm965 graphics card
is supported by the i810 driver (intel says it is too)
but

hey guys
having issues locating a shared hosting object in

used to be included with the xorg deprecate .... libXP.so.6
which package contains it now?

how do you make a command run at boot?
nvm
yeah, saw that ninjagumby

what is fedora's analog to /etc/conf.d/local.start
rc.local is a decent place
np
/etc/rc.local?
just use find ?
anyone in here use maya 8.5 ?
room-mate has maya 8.5 for linux, installed it under F7 and hes
getting a signal 11... no further info
curious if anyone else has gotten it running correctly
what is maya?
3d dev
oh
well, obviously I have not used maya
since I had no idea what it was
k3b better stop making coasters now
with this update
it worked fine in fc6
Hey There, I have a routing question. Suppose I have a name
resolving problem and I want all browser traffic looking for pages
from bob.com and something.bob.com (2 different IP's) to be
directly pointed to their IP's, which I know, how can I stop fedora
using the domain names and force it to use direct dedicated ip hosting
addresses?
edit /etc/hosts
man hosts
Yeah I added both of them in their, though it doesn't seem to
be working
The ACTUAL problem is that a proxy wont let a particular name
through, though it will let it's direct IP through
make sure /etc/nsswitch.conf has files before db
i mean
the line:
files dns
whats the order in host.conf ?
eh ?
look in /etc/nsswitch.conf
what do you mean?
oh, guess he can fuck it up there aswell
line has files before dns
seems like I've always had to reboot for changes to
/etc/hosts to become apparent
try a service network restart instead
host.conf and nsswitch.conf both tell your computer how to
resolve name queries
much quicker
Yeah it has "hosts: files dns"
or maybe changes to /etc/nsswitch.conf. anyhow, something
along those lines. hostname to ip mappings get cached somewheres
and changing hosts has no effect
hey just got Fedora installed, how do I make GRUB show
Windows as default, then be able to toggle to Fedora
edit /boot/grub/menu.lst
no gui mode to edit?
wormz, try restarting named
or run system-config-boot or something like that
Ah, apprently my efforts are foiled anyway, the direct dedicated ip hosting
I'm trying to connect to is blocked, arg
thanks guys
heh
All in the name of getting youtube to work at UNI...
what is fedora's analog to /etc/conf.d/local.start

Hi
UGH
new kernel fails compile
too
what the heck am i doing wrong
Where can I find the source rpm for Python 2.5 in the core
repo?
I can't log into gnome now. When I try, I get only my wallpaper
and a cursor - not the cursor I set it to use.
I can log into KDE, or into gnome as root. When I log into gnome
as root, however, it stops working when I click the 'logout' button
after clicking 'logout' on the System menu.
Does anyone know how to fix this? I was able to log into gnome as
myself once, right after I created my user account.
i would guess that you are missing some kernel compile
pre-requisites
dunno how many parts the fc7 kernel build enviroment and kernel
source are nowadays
is there something I need to do with Fedora before I can do
ifconfig?
su -
provide the full path, or updated your path?
I am in the terminal as root
command not found?
"command not found?" A: Run the command AS ROOT after switching
users with "su --login" or "su -" in order to get root's command
PATH so the command WILL be found; don't run "su" by itself. If
it's still not found, then either it's not installed in a standard
path location (echo $PATH), is not executable (chmod a+x), is in
your current dir (./runme), or you've spelled it
incorrectly.
^^
try the full path
so /sbin/ifconfig
ha, yikes.
hmm
ah I frgot the -
there we go thanks
Hello, Is there a way to turn off the automatic package
updater for f6, so that specific packages never trigger the
updater?
zcat is nothing but a perl
script, no matter what it may try to say otherwise.
chkconfig yum off
oops, guess I shoulda read the rest of your question. beats
me
ie: I have a realtime kernel, and I don't need regular kernel
updates, but it always triggers the updater.
whats the difference between menu.lst and grub.conf?
edit /etc/yum/yum-updatesd.conf
grub expects menu.lst so redhat just makes that a
symlink
i know i've asked this before and you have answered it a few
times, but i forgot how to set my whole environment to
root
ah
and chkconfig --levels 345 yum-updatesd off
i had it earlier, but now i'm not getting that little icon
saying that i'm temparily root
Shankysc87, you mean 'su -' ?
i tried that
ha, guess I'm not up with the times. fc6 has that damn
updated thingy too I spose
but it didn't change my entire environment
just my terminal experience
you'd log in as root. but don't do that.
hello
I can't log into gnome now. When I try, I get only my wallpaper
and a cursor - not the cursor I set it to use.
can someone please tell me where to disable the
firewall?
I can log into KDE, or into gnome as root. When I log into
gnome as root, however, it stops working when I click the 'logout'
button after clicking 'logout' on the System menu.
system-config-security
Does anyone know how to fix this? I was able to log into
gnome as myself once, right after I created my user
account.
how do I edit it to tell it to ignore specific package
updates?
spose you could delete all the .gnome and .gconf garbage from
your home directory
no.. i had a little icon where my task bar is with a little
sheild saying i had permissions, which i can't seem to get
again
Mathman, I can try that
ging0, man page for yum should tell you how..
i need that little permissions shield back for a moment and i
don't know how to get it back
ok mutk
i've tried su -
but that didn't work
open a config page that requires root
ging0, man page for yum.conf actually...
thanks
lol
ging0, Look for 'exclude'
I don't get it, but ok. long as he's happy I
guess
thnkx..reading man right now.
Is there any way to keep this client running while I try
switching desktops?
ok.. i got the little shield back
but.. that didn't work like i wanted to either
what i'm trying to do is manipulate my /etc/fstab file
Shankysv87, Perhaps you should explain what you are trying to
do?
again, you'd log in as root if you want everything to run as
root. but don't do that.
i don't want permanent root, i just want permissions to
manipulate that file
In a command line, sudoedit /etc/fstab
so su - or whatever
my /etc/yum/ only contains pluginconf.d and
yum-updatesd.conf
should I make yum.conf
ging0, No.
ging0, ls /etc/yum.conf
I launch system-config-security-level and disable the
firewall, click ok... but it does not save my setting
found it...
Mathman, I tried removing .gnome* and .gconf* from my home as
you suggested, but I still can't use gnome.
when i run system-config-securitylevel again, my changes are
disregarded
Try disabling the iptables service.
kill it?
ps -A | grep iptables returns no results
try some other junk. .gnome-foo or whatever. just pretty much
anything that seems related to gnome. and then I spose make sure
anything gnome isn't running still. and throw a "yum update" in for
good measure
know why else my system-config-securitylevel changes are
ignored?
perhaps you'd need to restart iptables? service iptables
restart
iptables isn't a daemon process by the way. just a command to
manipulate the kernel
are you running SELinux?
what is a good eyedropper program for linux, is there one
built into gnome
"eyedropper"?
color grabber
gimp might have something like that
i need one for the whole desktop
kcolorchooser if you have KDE its graphics apps
evil_steve, i just disabled SELinux, but I was
Anyone know how to get an a2dp bluetooth headset to work in
fedora 7?
evil_steve, think SELinux is causing me a problem?
that is a color selector from a color wheel, i am talking
about an app that grabs the color from any thing, click a color in
an open Impress slide show
Is the procedure for installing the Java Plugin for
Mozilla/Firefox in Fedora 7 the same as in FC5 and FC6? Is there
alink for Install for Fedora 7? ANy nice automated installs or
anyone create a batch file to automate it? LINK?
comphappy, run it, then click the the eyedropper button.
did someone just say batch file?
comphappy, kruler used to be able to do that
I used batch file as an example. Obviously no such thing in
linux
E-mu, procedure should be the same.
why is it when I do sudo *command* it prompts for the
password I enter my root password and it says its wrong
onexused, on my box it is not a eyedropper, it is a paint
pallet, but i figured it out, thanks
Has anyone created an automated install along with
configuring it etc or is this still all done manually?
Surfer666 you need to configure sudo
how do I do that?
nano /etc/sudoers
?
yes, i and look at man sudo
near the bottom
no
visudo
do not edit sudoers manually.
oh yah, i forgot about that
so which thing should I be looking at?
add your user
what is the editor that took pico's place? One you can use it
command mode?
how do you delete a directory via terminal?
E-mu, vim?
i'm really new to commands
rm -r /dir/
Shankysv87, is the directory empty?
rmdir "directory"
yes
not vi or vim its like pico but another name just forgot
it
rm -rf "directory"
joe?
emacs? nano?
you can use that if it is empty
ya nano thanks
true.
i just got in the habbit
on th fedora site is there tips for the Java plug or is there
a link that you suggest for Fedora 7?
ferrum, worked great thanks
install java rpm
ok link?
then link it to your browser
how do I like save in visudo?
java.sun.com
got a question... what's everyone's pref. who likes gnome for an
IRC client?
so you still have to link?
i did
Surfer, escape + ":wq"
also look here http://www.fedorasolved.org/ i
think it has a section of java
plus what?!
:wq
wtf is that
ya thats the site fedorasolved.org
three characters
why are there so many of them lmao
quit
but has anyone created an installer and automated the rest of
the process?
just roll with me here.
E-mu, no
it is not that hard
Why I'll never understand
escape?
or control
http://www.gagme.com/greg/linux/f7-tips.php#java
uper left corner
that key in the upper left
that says "Esc" :P
says "Esc"
I disagree because evertime I did it there was either a
clerical error on my part or I forgot a part and it screwed it all
up
lmao thats so harsh to do
it is like 3 command
ESC + SHIFT + ; :P
becomes second nature
it says "Sorry, try again"
well if its for Fedora 7 specifically then it shoudl
work
Surfer666, it makes sense once you become insane.
now try emacs lmao
esc, shift+;, w, q
cause they know where mozilla/firefox dir etc are
hmm
I'm so confused how to use sudo :P
either way
how do I install gnome-splashscreen-manager
Surfer666, RMS knew you'd have that issue, so he pimped your
GNU/Linux with an info page!
su - and yum install gnome-splashscreen-manager
"Nothing to do"
"nothing to do?" A: When yum reports "nothing to do" what it's
really saying is that the "package may already be installed" (or it
doesn't exist), so there's nothing for it to do. (ask directly: rpm
-q package).
Probably already installed then
hmm maybe that wasn't the right package
lol I can't find it if it is infact installed :O
I don't even see a package called that. What are you trying
to do/
edit the grub splash screen easily?
it seems to be a real package somewhere
what is it with people today trying to beautify grub?
crazy people
lol
I just want to change the image
there's already one enabled
too lazy to figure out this resolution stuff, then convert to xpm
using gimp
anyhow I'll figure that out in a bit
now to figure out my soundcard first
my webcam has just made me an avi file. what program do i need
to turn that into a series of jpegs or pngs? i want to do a few
basic changes to all of them (colour level shift), chop out a
certain range of frames and then save
what's wrong with your soundcard?
ffmpeg
my soundcard isn't working with Fedora
I think I need to install more specific drivers or
something
do you know what kind it is?
some realtek
not 100% sure
lspci | grep Audio
it lists
as?
b.0 Audo device: Intel Corporation 82801H (ICH8 Family) HD Audio
Controller (rev
in F7, I can use some packages from freshrpms ?
s/1H/1G and that's the card I have.
is snd_hda_intel loaded?
that's the same one I have.
HP Laptop
the windows drivers are like Realtek ones though
insignificant detail
Forget Winblows drivers
lsmod | grep snd_hda_intel
really?
try changing the volume on several different channels.
(I may have to switch to Intel drivers for sound or
something)
CrocoJet, yes
run alsamixer and set everything to max and unmuted.
ok, thanks
hi
yeah, should work out of the box
it really should.
I just did an update the day before yesterday and already
there's another 115 MB!
wtf irc client is everyone using here?
pidgin
okay I set it all to max and unmuted I think
pidgin. I was using gaim on FC6
LiNeTuX, xchat
how do I test my soundcard
thx. just trying to get a feel.
onexused, a few large packages (kernel, openoffice, evolution)
were updated yesterday
system-config-soundcard
openoffice is becomeing bloatware
open office and the kernel, that's mine : )
sound
(from gnome)
got no sound coming out
Surfer666, System-Admin-Soundcard Detection
comphappy, it's not bloatware if you can disable bits and
pieces.
abd they cant even get video to work correctly
lsmod | grep snd_hda_intel outputted a few things
actually
that's fine
why should i have to download JMF to play videos in a
presintation, i spent 6 hours trying to get it to work and it would
not
what's JMF?
if you have speakers, they ARE turned on, right?
java media framework
no speakers
its a laptop
its speakers are built in :P
just checking... heh
it is what oo.o uses for all things video and audio
what laptop?
Lenovo N200
Surfer666, everything turned up in the mixer and the mute button
disabled?
yes I just checked that
/dev/audio
have you gone into standby
heh
Surfer666, that's how you check if audio is working.
no
write error: Invalid argument
you mistyped :o
I typed what you typed :P
nuh-uh
no I retyped it
what does 'ls /dev/audio' give you?
it looks exactly the same
/dev/audio in yellow
yellow with black background
what does "cat /dev/urandom" give you?
are you sure I shouldn't just install the drivers that Realtek
thinks I need?
a bunch of garbled shit.
ferrum, try it
Surfer666, they provide Linux drivers?
taking 20 years to do
bitchkat, oh I know what it gives.
*control + z's
let me see
http://www.realtek.com.tw/downloads/downloadsView.aspx?Langid=1&PNid=24&PFid=24&Level=4&Conn=3&DownTypeID=3&GetDown=false#High%20Definition%20Audio%20Codecs
hmmm... i wonder if you have the HD enabled in BIOS
thats where I got my windows drivers
trying to remember if I do
so I scroll down to *nix
I don't have many audio options
I don't think I do... which might be part of the problem
can't remember tho
I don't have many bios options
and audio works in win32 :P
i'm just thinking if it's a digital vs analog issue w/the
soundcard
(horribly I might add because I get random high pitched faint
noises when I plug in headphones, but thats besides the
point)
people who mention the evil OS from Redmond should be
banned.
lol
I believe I have ALC861
random high pitched noises? that could be pcm from digital
audio
that's whats reported from the evil OS from Redmond
pcm?
think encoded audio for surround sound
still no clue... but anyways any idea how to fix it?
my thought is if your s/c is in that 'mode'... you're not
going to hear anything. but it's just a thought.
hmmm....
have no options to set though so I don't really know :P
holy shit, cavs are actually up by 2
what's ICH8?
Intel chipset
hi, I am wondering if anyone knows why HAL would mount an
external hard drive root access only
thanks
I wasn't paying attention.. what does system-config-soundcard
say?
grigora, if you don't want it to, add an entry into fstab and
explicitly set the options yo uwant
have you run alsamixer?
(not sure why it'd mount as root, though.)
is there a way to adjust the refresh rate on the display for a
laptop
in terminal mode right?
it's kind of hurting my eyes
in root?
isn't there some sort of hal configuration?
yeah
I ran it
I have seen the same thing but I didn't bother to figure out
why.
not sure how to navigate it too well
I was mostly pressing up and right
did you notice an analog/digital option in there?
no
I don't see that
how do i make a read only fstab file and make it so that its
writable?
(I'm currently IRC'ing from my desktop)
Shankysv87, chmod?
like chmod /etc/fstab?
ok. rule that out
chmod u+w /etc/fstab
su -c "vim /etc/fstab"
in the Audio configuration thingy
it says PCM Device ALC861vD Analog
that's good then
and then you go to System it says ALSA Driver version
1.0.14rc3
so that can't be it
Surfer666, did you check all of the controls in alsamixer? you
can scroll to the right usually.
ferrum/bitchkat didn't work
Surfer666 ... you don't have SELinux running, do you?
I hit tab
SELinux might be running
LiNeTuX, don't disable SELinux
that can kill your audio
... o_o
Shankysv87, you're running as root write?
if something is conflicting, setroubleshoot should show the
problem
Uhh... SELinux can kill your audio? Crack can also cause
retardation...
Don't smoke crack.
yes
Jazz is like bicycles!
SELinux can block ALSA
No
so uhh
I've never heard/seen selinux cause problems with sound.
i can see the stuff in it, i'm just unable to save any changes i
want to make to it
Soundcard Detection ... playing with that, you get no sound at
all?
Because it can't cause problems with sound.
lunatik, technically it _could_
but default configs don't have any issue.
noe lunitik
from another machine:
3): avc: denied { search } for pid=1147 comm="alsactl" name="root"
dev=sda9
It _can_, but it might not be common
'/sbin/lsmod | grep snd_hda_intel' -- any output?
yes I get 5 things
snd_hda_intel snd_hda_codec snd_pcm snd snd_page_alloc
/dev/dsp -- make any noise?
going down the first column
lunatik, /dev/urandom
(don't kill his random buffer)
so do urandom instead?
yep
sure...
write error: Invalid argument
the hack of downgrading xorg-x11-server-Xorg to 1.2.0-6.fc7
seems to do the trick of getting fglrx working on f7
loving it for a few days now
Typo?
no typo
I've typed it before...
/dev/dsp -- as root
I can't copy and pate
*paste
but I typed it exactly like that
no capitals, no extra spaces
As root?
yes
I did su -
It should not say Invalid argument... 'ls /dev/dsp'?
Cavs are toast
No one cares
lunatik++
returns /dev/dsp
What is cav?
JackRippr, american football I believe
I'm confused...
lunatik, probably he's mistyping ""
Says he's typing it "exactly like that"....
NBA. Bunch of overpaid guys playing with a ball.
then it should be working
so he's not.
thanks.
its a
...
/dev/dsp
Yes, that should have done something other than say "Invalid
argument"
:|
what does a "write error" from cat mean?
cat doesn't do any writing..
cat /var/log/dmesg |grep audit
cat writes to stdout, no?
initializing netlink socket (disabled)
"Invalid Argument" for writing to stdout?
):
): enforcing=1 old_enforcing=0
Surfer666, http://rafb.net/paste
): policy loaded
He can't copy paste apparently :/
sorry thats all of them
its on my laptop :P
he's typing all that?
o_O
I could technically use rafb.net/paste
I guess :/
I do technically have a network connection on the laptop
well so much for the selinux theory
Okay, so SELinux isn't kiling ASLA
you could always do setenforce 0 temporarily to see if that
fixes it.
ummm..... ya know what.... there's no support for alc861vd until
2.6.22
d'oh
what kernel am I using?
2.6.21
uname -a
good catch
thats 2.6.21-1.3228
you could always compile your own 2.6.22 :/
uhhh
that sounds like work lmao
you check off a bunch of things in a config file then type
"make"
and pray you configured it correctly
heh
Sorry Surfer666
Surfer666, you'll definitely have sound by December.
lmao
by December
F8 comes out December
haha
Supposed to be October...
lunatik, since when has fedora ever released on
schedule?
I have randomly configured a FreeBSD kernel sometime ago
how hard could it be :O
Since it's a release for historic reasons?
lunatik, ?
The first ever RedHat release was the "Halloween
Release"...
yes yes.
time to restart and look at the new splash screen :P
there's little precedent that says they'll make it on time
:P
thankfully I got one thing done
you could also start with kernel config from fedora and go from
there
/lib/modules/build/.config
ewww gross image :P
well
/lib/modules/build/`uname -r`/.config
now to find a better picture for bootsplash
erm grub splash
/boot/config-`uname -r`
ferrum, how late was f7? I cant remember of there were other
adjustments before the last one of one week
About 2 weeks... mostly because of the merge....
bitchkat, I have no idea; they erased all traces of error
like in 1984
how do I add the DVD installation media to the repository list
so files are installed from it?
I made install one package from freshrpms, and now I am getting
some problems update from livna. Is possible select one package to
update from livna and other package from freshrpms ?
(talking about dependencies)
I don't think there is any way to give one repo precedence
over another with yum, no
so .. freshrpms is not compatible with F7 and livna
damn !
It should be in the future... but currently, there is little
correlation between the different 3rd party repo's.
oik
ok
*cough*rpmfusion*cough*
clear
I will remove packages with dependencies problems .. livna and
freshrpms .. I think .. is solution, right ?
okay well thats enough fun with fedora for one day
how about we continue tomorrow
how would i add the installation DVD as a repository?
alright time to fade into the background
thanks for all your help guys... much appreciated (although we
didn't really resolve an issue, all good at least we know what we
can do to resolve it)
maybe tomorrow I might compile a new kernel :P
bbl.
I hope they fix network manager soon
hey all
are there any clients that suipport communication with google
talk
using voice?
hi
does google talk use sip?
It uses xmmp or whatever, jabber afaik.
i think jabber jabber
*struts*
what? no one wants to strut with me?
tough crowd
strut?
yes
walking confident yet cocky
are there any clients for linux that support talking to
google talk clients?
OH KAY... but why?
why not?
you're on linux, that's reason enough
agreed, but only if your computer runs your life
neilthereildeil, try gizmo?
would that work?
over jabber jabber voice?
looks like you can only exchange messages not voice yet..
sorry.
tell your friends to use sip :-)
heh-i cant convert them
also, how to do iget the back button on my mouse to work in
firefox?
I think you need some sort of helper app, what type of mouse is
it?
neilthereildeil, you prob need to use evdev
microsoft intelimouse
I haven't tried since FC6 and never had much luck
http://code.google.com/apis/talk/open_communications.html#protocols
"What protocols are used for voice calls?"
http://code.google.com/apis/talk/libjingle/index.html
So peeps! I just upgraded to fedora 7 and the fedora 7 kernel
can't find the root volume. I had to start up with an fc6
kernel.
banyan, upgrade or fresh install?
How do I fix that? Can somebody running fedora 7 pastebin the
contents of their /etc/fstab and the output of /sbin/blkid so I
know how to set my machine up?
I did the thing that seemed easier up front (upgrade).
banyan, http://rafb.net/p/87faFl61.html
Thanks.
It looks like with yours, the important things are that the boot
and root are labeled.
http://rafb.net/p/G8szVo48.html
but it still doesn't like life.
f7 upgrade instructions, right?
any obvious typos in mine? I don't see anything but...
Well, the ones I followed were, um... let me see...
http://www.ioncannon.net/linux/68/upgrading-from-fc6-to-fedora7-with-yum/
The official line from fedora is 'don't use yum!' but I had to
because the DVD would poop out after I selected a
keyboard.
...livecd?
nope, the i386 install cd.
I mean, try the livecd
failing that, boot.iso
boot.iso in the dvd, burned to cd you mean?
livecd should work; it just dumps an image.
that sounds like a 'reformat' type solution.
likely because it is
I wanted to update tho.
I don't expect I'm far off. I just need to get it to see the
root when it comes up.
I think I'll just take a minute to reboot and write down exactly
what it says if it doesn't come up again. My /var is a software
raid drive that was all buggered up because the format of
mdadm.conf changed, so when it tried the first time there was no
/var. Maybe that threw it off.
Anyone know how I can get gnome to remember my volume settings
from my last logon?
Every time I reboot, it resets the volume levels and de-selects
my mic as the recording source, so Skype doesn't work until I reset
it
I had the same issue on FC6, but at some point it went away,
alas I can't remember why / when!
chmac, that doesn't happen for me. You could always set a
startup script that sets your preferred values via
amixer.
Does your system remember the volume levels after a
reboot?
chmac, yes
Hmm, there must be something affecting the numbers on my system
then
Weird...
perhaps some software is setting it?
Yeah, I guess it could be, Skype might be the culprit, I'll try
some tests, although Skype doesn't start automatically any
more...
I use skype without problems :/
Which version are you using?
does any one have azureus working with the java that comes
with fedora?
1.3.0.53-fc5
Have you tried 1.4 Alpha? It's a *major* improvement in my
opinion
nope, never heard of it, else I probably would have
But, it crashes occasionally, I notice that it's not
running
oh hey, they have a F7 rpm
Personally, I haven't tried it
I should probably change that.
A Skype FC7 rpm?
Hm? In FC6, the packaged azureus works fine with the packaged
gcj, but doesn't with Sun java.
http://www.skype.com/go/getskype-linux-fc7
mwilson, interesting
mwilson, i had the opposite experience in FC5
this is the 1.4 beta
mwilson, trying it now in FC6, and i can't seem to connect to
the swarm
Not like I played with it much... don't have any use for
azureus *or* java.
mwilson, in FC5, it worked, but i had terrible performance with
gcj
mwilson, i want the bandwidth throttling features
Feh... even btdownloadcurses can do *that*.
mwilson, just reading ctorrent -h
i see it can do that too
Wow, the RPMs are brand new, they've only been released in
the last week or so
guess i don't need azerus
chmac, trying it out
ctorrent + screen for me then
ctorrent has no man page though
heh, they still labeled it .fc5
excellent
I've used rtorrent, it's pretty nice, what's ctorrent
like?
chmac, a console torrent client written in c
chmac, one of the regulars here recommended it to me
works perfectly
Yeah, rtorrent is a console client as well
chmac, it's having difficulty signing me in.
and... it crashed.
wonderful
chmac, heard of it, haven't tried it
I sometimes get that it doesn't login properly, or it logs me in
but doesn't set my status to online, which is weird
Hello everyone
I use azureus with sun's java under FC6
It's a lot nicer than 1.3, you can search your contacts, see
contacts local time, etc, etc
A bunch of stuff that just wasn't there in 1.3
chmac, finally logged in by removing .Skype
Did you lose all your settings?
I always figured that the packaged azureus had mods to make
it work correctly with gcj.
chmac, yup
I think it worked ok with my old !/.Skype from 1.3
I don't think I had any special settings
sun's java doesn't work well with compiz or beryl
beryl uses java? ..
no
oh I see.
Gotcha
if you run java apps...
It just doesn't show up correctly sometimes
it you use beryl
if you use beryl
But suns java is better than gcj
I wonder why *cough*
Oooh, the rpm creates a nice new menu icon for skype as well,
lovely!
Hmm, maybe sun had something to do with java. But just
maybe
sun java :: reactos : windows
also, java 1.6 has input problems.
sgodsell, it happens with compiz too.
I think fedora should come out with some network
configuration setup configurator. One where if the user enters the
system name/model. Then default settings regarding the computer
(keyboard, screen, ....) could automatically be setup for the
system.
sgodsell, I don't understand what you mean.
oh, that's a terrible idea
ferrum, would you mind pastebinning your /boot/grub/menu.lst
file? I want to verify the kernel arguments I'm passing to my f7
kernel.
imagine if it asked me for the model and I answered correctly
"Dell Inspiron E1405"
yeah sure
http://rafb.net/p/GYTDEb81.html
thanks guy!
anyway, point is that computer are customized, parts are swapped
in and out.. the model actually tells little information.
the probing we do at the moment is the way to go.
other setup can be handled via fedorasolved.org
ferrum, not if it is a notebook. Or a store bought
computer
sgodsell, I have a notebook. All parts were ripe for
configuration.
Besides you can still change the configuration. But I am just
saying get the defaults from the net. For a model that the user
enters
Point is, we only have so many resources. We could shift
developers away from hardware support to make this database--but
what good would it do? Someone swaps in an ATI card and it all goes
to hell, and we have to rely on probing anyway.
hey, ya know... my boot drive is known as 'hda1' as the fc6
kernel knows it.
f7 drives are /dev/sda
to fc6, that's (hd0,0), but in fedora 7, don't the ide drives
go after the scsi / serial ata drives?
so maybe my correct root parameter is (hd4,0)
does that get passed to the kernel anyway, or is that just for
grub's use?
ferrum, the screen is just one aspect. What about keyboards,
modems, other usb devices. I just think it would help people. Make
fedora better for users in general
fedora should be able to configure everything automatically.
If it doesn't, that's a bug.
: linear: dm-linear: device lookup
and bitches about a few things and then can't find root and
s**ts the bed.
ferrum, well if there was a database with system
configurations. Then you could get into finite setups. ie keyboard
with say volume control setup automatically. You don't get that
right now
yeah, I have one of those but it doesn't work.
I don't really care, but interesting point...
banyan, all keyboards can be configured
Keyboard Shortcuts
when i upgraded to F7 grub was set to boot F7 from (hd3,0),
thou my bios sees my linux drive as hd0 so after a reboot i had to
edit the drive number in grub then make it permanent after getting
into fedora
ferrum, there is my point exactly. No offence to banyan, but
see he didn't know that the keyboard could be setup. Look at
windows, and the hardware manufactures. They setup the systems with
the keyboards configured with sound, email, etc. If there was a
remote database this could really benefit fedora. For that matter
everyother linux distro as well.
I think it is a good idea
All in favor, say I
I ;-)
well, I just didn't care enough to look into it.
I use my remote for all that (lirc)
not to say that it wouldn't be useful to have both
possibly.
hi. can someone assist me in burning cd?
k3b
sgodsell, that is not an ideal solution.
I am sort of stuck on the concept
ferrum, why not?
a better method would be to profile the keyboard and maintain a
database of keyboards' special button mappings.
no user input is preferred. Things should "Just Work" (tm)
we could probably handle that via Smolt
do I have to do anything to make the cd burner get recognized by
the comp? ie: do I have to mount it (edit fstab) like a hard drive
or usb drive?
atula, no
ferrum, what is this smolt thing
sgodsell, it's a hardware profiler. It sends data about your
hardware back to fedoraproject.org, where it's entered into a
database.
ferrum, I just put in an IDE burner... got gnomebaker
atula, run gnomebaker as root
ferrum, but for some reason... it's not seeing it... oh. I
see,,, if I add my self to cdrom group... will that solve the
problem then?
you might have to mess with permissions on your
cdrecorder
ok, i've looked everywhere, tried everything, but with no luck.
I'm looking for a mpeg-4 encoder plugin for totem movie
player.
SHankysv87, totem is crap, use mplayer, vlc, or xine.
sgodsell, http://smolt.fedoraproject.org/
ferrum, yeah... it's not seeing the writer even running as root.
I remember there's a command to probe for the writer... could you
remind me?
lspci? not sure.
did that... but that lists some other stuff
Anyone here know about XML DTD? I'm concerned about
something, and I can't find any explanations online.
now that I've re-run the mkinitrd, do I expect that I'd have
better luck booting?
cdrecord --scanbus
I think
yeah that's it
yeah... did that too.. but it's still not seeing it...
*sigh... bad burner?
bad drivers, probably
is it maybe not powered up?
does it eject the tray if you hit the button?
yeah of course
green led and all
just checking.
it's ide?
yep it's ide
I fired up k3b...and it's stucked at scanning for cd
devices
the new k3b is sexy
I think there's an issue with this burnder then
can you boot off it? does the light come on during
boot?
oh yeah
hi all, how can I make my iptables rules start on boot? I apply
all the rules with the shell and when I reboot, I have to apply
them one more time.... they always get lost
the thing works
I put in a cd and it opened up with content
maybe it doesn't burn cd-r
old school burner? dman
it says on the front it's a burner?
maybe it's just a reader.
ay... it is just a fking reader
omg... this had got to be the most annoying thing ever
ddaamn! I have old stuff
leer pero no escribar.
CD burning?? hmm... how quaint
aloooooo
:P
can anyone tell me how to mount CD in Rescue mode?
do I need to do anything ultra special to build an initrd for
the f7 kernel while running an fc6 kernel?
can somebody help me with iptables?
does anyone else running f7 have sata disks in their system
but boot and root on an ide?
banyan, mkinitrd --with=jbd --with=ext3 --with=scsi_mod
--with=sd_mod --with=libata --wi
th=ahci /boot/initrd-2.6.21.3.img 2.6.21.3
sold my last old 120gig IDE HD to a friend last week, all
sata now
hello
anyone have a clue as to why I don't see CDROM mounted when in
rescue mode?
you mean the rescue cd itself?
yup
it's root.
I believe it's root.
mounted under root? hmm
nothing there
when looking at the mounts, I don't see the file system
ISOFS
gotta go
take care
I don't see anything remotely related to a mount of the
CDROM, and yet I just booted from it lol
what is this beagled thing anyway?
I thought I'd gotten hacked the first time I saw it.
beagle is a search tool
desktop search, banyan
put it in walk the dog mode ,hehehe
it's disabled by default because it kills system
resources
it does.
kernel update problem fixed, btw
there was a problem?
mkinitrd wasn't pushed to the repos so the dependency resolution
failed
all well now though
I made a new initrd. What are the chances that'll get my
machine working with the f7 kernel
?
dunno..fair to middling?
I will reboot and try.
back in a few...
awesome! multicore bug fixed
do you know how to create a script to start the iptables
rules on boot?
services
check on "iptables" and hit save
Do the official ati drivers work ok with FC7 yet?
yes.. it starts iptables...but on every reboot I have to
restore them :/
utnalove, click on the Checkbox to the left of the name
if it's checked, that means "start on boot"
it's checked
then hit Save
I will try... somebody told I have to make a .sh script
no
ok thanks
hey guys, i just set up FC6 on my server and i'm having some
probs with MD RAID
i have four 400GB SATA II disks on a Promise SATA300 TX4 PCI
card
using them all as one big RAID 6 partition
i keep getting soft lockups on second CPU
and i need to nuke that RAID array, which is currently empty
since the disks just came in today
any safe way to just disconnect md raid from the kernel and dd
zeroes to the partition tables on the disks?
any safe way to just disconnect md raid from the kernel and dd
zeroes to the partition tables on the disks?
so, can anyone help with my RAID issues?
how to install mpeg 3 and 4 codecs?
Very annoying problem. firefox is starting up with a window
size that is almost maximized. It's so large, I can't get a
'grabber' to allow resizing. It is not obeying the -geometry X
window application parameter. I can't find any size parameters in
about::config. I don't see a .firefox file in my home directory.
Where do I control this ?
(oh yeah, ) I also con't find any reasonable file to edit under
.mozilla
PinTail_b, alt + pressed right button and you can move firefox
window
PinTail_b, left :-
polpol - cool, many thanks, I did try Ctrl+left (and right) but
didn't see anything useful, I forgot about Alt
PinTail_b, np
windows + middle button will let you resize.
anywhere inside the window.
my fedora is Fedora_7_X86_64_DVD,i found a bug:when i install, i
cannot remove genome.i meaning whatever i choose install gnome or
not,it must be installed!
Could it be that you are choosing to install something that
depends on Gnome?
is it a bug or i do something wrong?
I think it's a perceptual issue
i try in fedora 6, same choosing and fedora 6 is OK.
You are probably selecting (or not de-selecting) an application
that requires some gnome libs, and so gnome gets installed
Is CentOS a fork of Fedora?
its a fork of redhat enterprise
Is Fedora an ingredient of rhel?
i choosen very few software. only basic system and xfce.no
internet,no office,on game.
are you de-selecting *everything* before you make your
selections
i think so.i de_select gnome and office and game and video
and so on.
but everything i de-selected are be installed.
even game!
on the 'list' pane, you can see the individual packages that
are selected.
I presume you are using Package Manager ?
when i install, i use extra software.
explain please
is it means i use package manager?
i install something through network
how might someone choose between fedora and centos? I'm
leaning towards Fedora anyway because I have to use it this
autumn.
What distribution are you using ?
...I'm just trying to understand the relationship.
excuse me ,what means distribution?
how quaint .. english lessons 101
what 'version' of linux are you using ?
hello linuxgeek_w
Fedora_7_X86_64_dvd
OK, sorry, I think you did tell us that already
so, you have a running system ?
hello ball
i delete everyting in my laptop, and begin a new install.
#fedora people are so much nicer (and saner) than #solaris
poeple...
during the process,i choose manage package
ive never used centos but afaik its generally for servers and
other systems which need to run 24/7, thus its not as cutting edge
as fedora, fedora should problably be considered for occassional
desktop users
don't worry .. some of us still want to secretly kill
you.
OK, so when you startup your machine with the DVD in, it
presents you with a GUI, right ?
thou im sure theres people who use fedora for servers
yes!
So, on the software package selector screen, you should see a
tabbed interface
one of the tabs is labelled 'List'
click that, and you will see every package that may be
installed
so, start by ensuring *everything* is de-selected
May I ask three compatability questions, to help me decide?
hello a9913
ball, hello
Does anyone know if the official drivers from ATI work with
FC7 ok?
not yet
It's a XOrg issue, not fedora
Are those binary drivers?
A new fglrx is expected before the end of the month
I hear that's quite bad.
fglrx
hello MrMarkie
what ?
Good Morning
my friend wrote a blog post that seemed critical of fglrx
...perhaps the new version will address his concerns though
OK, well criticism is easy
I'm also quite inclined to trust this friend as informed. I have
other friends I would just smile and nod at ;-)
(when they discuss Linux and code)
hmm
Hey guys, the last six months I've learned something really
extraordinary
on winehq.org apparently FC6 got a platinuum rating for
compatibility with counterstrike :P
i _hope_ this carries through to 7
that's the only thing stopped me from switching completely lol
stopping *
After migrating my business and home computers I can finally
say with a clean consience, Linux is ready for the
desktop
can someone please browse to http://www.yankeeboysoftware.com/test/
Bad Gateway
yeah, keeps giving a 502 bad gateway
crap
I get that too
hello che
D'oh, typo in apache.conf
ball, hello
bbl
please try again http://www.yankeeboysoftware.com/test/
Still bad Gateway
Cleared my cache, still getting 502
is there separate CD isos of f7 available?
or just DVD iso?
hello falican
MrMarkie, congratulations for the change. linux is realy
ready for desktop we are sure!
what is your distro, by the way?
Damn, I am an idiot, left my http port firewalled. please try
again http://www.yankeeboysoftware.com/test/
I'm surprised, thought that was years off in the U.S. (although
I know it's done elsewhere)
Fedora Test Page PinTail_b
cool
Works
thasnks guys
thanks
yes,i see list panel
Good
Well on this machine I run FC6 but on my business computers I
run Ubuntu
so, have you de-selected *everything*
i see gnome is selected by system, right?
loads of stuff is selected by default
I'm not keen on Ubuntu
It makes unsound assumptions about what I plan to do
(and the default screen mode is insane)
if you want to start out CLEAN you have to start by
de-selecting everything
i into genome detail and see 40 package selected
Dude, don't worry about that yet
de-select everything from the list panel first
i de-select one of gnome package and click ok
hello
hello Arfdee
if i am having network problems on my laptop, other things, such
as gnome-terminal, etc, slow down
why are the things tied together?
jack_Qian - it is going to be very difficult for anyone to
help you if you ignore what they are telling you
sorry,i see gnome is selected and i de-selected gnome.
what shall i do next,please?
Dude - please start by de-selecting everything from the 'List'
pane
last time
ok ,i de-selected everything.
i have been de-selected everything
This is the first time you mentioned that
so, now you can go to the 'Browse' panel
and select XFCE, and then customise the rest of your
installation. Make sure you install "Base System"-"Base"
"Base System"-"Hardware Support"
yes ,i selected what i want.they are
xfce,base,hardware,lib.
OK
so now, you should be able to customise you install
i finish to select what i want
and then, the dependency chek takes place and you will see that
*loads* of other stuff will need to be installed as well
you don't really have much choice with this
Unless you use um from the command line, you can't force the
insall
ok,i see it.
OK
so you should have a pretty clean install after this
ok!i begin to install!
cool, good luck. be warned, the dependency check is not 100%
fool-proof
so if i only de-select gnome,it will be installed also?
no,
yes,thank you.
but yo might end up with a system that doesn't boot
or behave the way you want
thank you very much,sir!
no problem. In the future, don't PM without asking
first.
yes ,i understood.
You don't get the benefit of other peoples eyes
and they don't get to learn from your problems
yes.that is ture.
See, it's all very sensible here isn't it ?
nice place!
scared to migrate my web server to my new box
I need to know where in xorg.conf did the mouse configuration
go?
I am using Fedora 7 right now
hello everybody!
yeah, I noticed that too
I decided I didn't really care that much, since my mouse worked
fine
I need to change the mouse protocol
You can always add the section yourself
it should be honored
I think that is the solution
Lordveda - http://ftp.x.org/pub/X11R6.9.0/doc/html/mouse7.html
hi
gdm cannot start proprely, My X server keeps rebooting
can you boot into single mode
I've seen an aiglx error in the log, but even disabling aiglx in
the xoorg.conf dosen't solve the problem
can you boot into single mode
I'm doing it now
ok, how about runlevel 3
Any idea what package use to install SELinux source
policy?
it is installing , i will give a report when it finished.
thanks again.
cool
Anyone know how to do a headless install over serial of F7? I
tried passing the serial option at the boot prompt and I don't get
anything on my serial connection.
anybody that can help me to upgrade RT installation ?
Could anyone help me pick the right .iso to download?
http://fedora.mirror.facebook.com/linux/releases/7/Fedora/x86_64/iso/F-7-x86_64-DVD.iso
Is that right?
i suggest you can goto offical web to downloads
for what platform ?
I have an AMD Athlon X2 64bit 3800+
that will work, BUT be aware, some of your hardware might not
have 64 bit drivers yet
Is this the same situation as windows 64bit?
I've been told 64bit windows is a piece of crap, better to stay
with x86
same with this?
any Snare user?
help
it seems some of my programs are tied to a network connection, such
that when network, such as wireless, is acting funny, things like
gnome-terminal go slower, etc
meta4ical - yes, Windows has essentially the same issue
arfdee - that is surprising why ?
PinTail_b, gee, why is it surprising that gnome-terminal, a
program for a terminal, takes far longer to open when there are
internet issues
hmmm.... what's a terminal, a way to *connect* a display
device to a machine
ok, anyone else know how to fix the issue that seems to only
be happening on one machine?
sort out your networking issue
what's the problem
PinTail_b, you're not much help to anyone it seems
sounds like it's generating lots of interrupts when you think it
shouldn't be
is the card going bad, this is a symptom
ivazquez, do you know? i was in here the other day and someone
said it was some kind of dns or something issue
So downloading the x86 version of FC7 would be a better choice
than x86_64? Or should I just wait until the 64bit drivers are
out?
whats ur computer spec?
meta4ical, sorry, that's your choice. depends upon your
situtation.
ivazquez, with f7, even, sometimes when there are networking
issues, gdm, etc have that problem, going very slow
even when there's no networking issues, but i am USING the
network.
Arfdee - have you checked you don't have an IRQ sharing
issue
PinTail_b, how can i determine that for sure?
from proc/interrupts?
have you got procinfo installed
linux 64bit is far better than win 64bit ... the usual driver
problem you might face is only the ATI/NVidia card proprietary
drivers .. coz the drivers are not opensource .. my suggestion ..
just go for the x86_64 iso .. theres plenty of ppl here using it
full time without problems ...
man_at_arms, this is ridiculous. i am using ethernet internet
right now and typing in terminal is going slow
Ardfee - procinfo -D
ASUS M2NPV-VM, AMD Athlon 64 X2 Dual Core 3800, ATI Sapphire
Radeon X1550 pci-e, 2gb ram
onboard audio/network
why don't your provide a 64bit livecd?
i don't have a dvd burner
aw
I only recently got one, I share your pain
whats the chipset for the Asus mobo?
hello all
Nvidia GeForce 6150
I need some help I'm under Fedora 7 and I got a Nvidia Graphic
card but I changed it to an ATI Radeon 9200Se one how can I install
the driver for the new card ?
hurm .. besides the ATI card .. i think all other hwares can
work ..
wathek, http://www.fedorafaq.org/#radeon
as I've read in the fedora forum the drivers are in test
ATI current driver wont for with F7 ... need to wait for ATI to
release their latest driver
any az users around?
but 9200 is supported by the open source driver
the ati card will have 2D .. but no 3D .. at least for now
..
ouh ..
So what'd you recommend? :P Should I just use FC6 in the
meantime or something
what do you mean KageSenshi?
actually current ati drivers are rumored to work if you
downgrade x
yes I've read that in the Fedora forum too
i dont know bout what card supported by radeon driver .. I
simply install fglrx if radeon not work :P
this is driving me nuts! why is it when I am using internet
that things such as gnome-terminal go slow!
yesterday i saw a Xorg log from a 1.3.0 server with fglrx
running, it was on ubuntu with 2.6.20 kernel
I got the same prob in some websites
wathek, not websites, it's regular programs
gnome-terminal takes far longer to load, etc
does it work?
try this website and tell me if you it's going slowly or not
http://www.zanzana.net/forum/
anyboody gotten azureus to work on f7?
wathek, my problem is not websites going slow
if noticed the same thing that why i use kde now
I know but the system is going slowly when I visit some web
site like that one
wathek, oh, well this is happening even if ff is closed
ah
like right now, there is a delay when i type into
gnome-terminal, when i use several characters
it seems i can't mount cds anymore, weird since they worked fine
yesterday ... what would cause this ?
KageSenshi, yes it works
http://rafb.net/p/QJN1sc46.html
anyone ever mounted a dmg file ( mac ) in linux ?
if i have iptables shut down theres no reason why az shouldnt
be working correct?
