Emails


Do I get to keep my old emails once I switch to you?

Emails that are ie: sales@YourDomainName.com are connected to your domain name not your hosting service provider.
So when you switch provider they will stay intact.
Plus, with us you will be able to open more than 150 email accounts under your domain for your employees, friends and family!

Emails that are: ie. sales@hostingProviderDomain.com are the only ones that are connected to your hosting provider and you can't keep those, unless you make an arrangement with your provider.

Emails that are ie. sales@yahoo.com or other free email provider are not related to your hosting, therefore will stay the same once you switch providers.



Will I be able to check my emails when I am away from my home/office computer?

Yes, all our accounts have a web mail option. What this means is that you can log on to the internet (to the address we will give you once you sign up - www.yourdomain.com/webmail/ ) and check your mail from any computer that has internet access. This feature is very handy if you travel alot, work from different computers thus you can check your email from ANY computer and you don't need to stay tied to your Outlook Express or other email client.



What is the size of the email boxes?

You set your own email box size limit as long as the total size of your email box (and all other site features) doesn't exceed the total space limits of your account/plan.

What do I need to do in order to transfer my web site from my current hosting provider to you?

All you will need to do is update your DNS records into the following.
Primary DNS : remus.eroute.net 216.12.218.150
Secondary DNS: jupiter.eroute.net 216.180.238.150

How do I update (change) my DNS records?

Simply go to the place where you registered your domain name. Log in to your account and change the Name Server details.
Where it lists Primary & Secondary DNS (Name Server), instead of the details that are there at the moment (your current hosting provider or the domain register' servers) type the following:
Primary DNS : remus.eroute.net
Secondary DNS: jupiter.eroute.net
Once you've made these changes it will take around 24h before your domain name starts to fully resolve throughour servers (this is a standard procedure every time when you change providers and can not be sped up as the global DNS registries need to update their records/system)



Is there any cost for you to update my DNS records on my behalf?

There is no cost to perform a DNS or technical change to move your domain name to or from our servers.
All we'll need from you is to send us your domain name and the login details to your domain manager.



I want to transfer my web site from my current hosting provider to you. To do this will I also need to transfer my domain name?

No you will not need to transfer your domain name. What you will need to do is update the DNS records so that they are now pointing to our servers. It's free to do this. See Above question for "how to" instructions.

Can you register a domain name for me?

Yes we can register following domain extensions
.com .biz .org .net .info .us .co.nz .net.nz .org.nz .school.nz .geek.nz
The cost of domain registration is NZ$39/year if you host your site with us or $49 if you host elsewhere.

To register a domain name simply fill out our hosting order form and choose the domain registration option.



Am I the owner of the domain name that you register for me?

Yes. We register domains on your behalf. That domain is completely your property; we only do administrative work and give technical support



How long does a registration of a new domain take?

Domain will be registered couple of hours upon the receipt of your request.
Your registered domain name will be functional 24-48 hours from when you register it.
This is because the DNS databases need some time to synchronize and refresh the information for your domain.



Do I need to have a registered domain name to have a web site online?

No, you don't need to have a regstered domain in order to have a site online.
There are 2 alternatives 1) You can use one of our domains names to host your site on or 2) You can host your site on a unique ip address (NZ$4/mth).
If you opt for option 1 you will need to specify this in the comments field of your order form. If you wish to go with option 2. then in your order form simply choose to purchase an IP Address



What domain extensions can you host? Can you host international (country specific) domain names?

We can host any domains, with all extensions from all around the world.
Of course we can host the popular COM, NET, ORG, INFO domains, and in addition to that, you can host any other country specific domain names ie: .CO.UK .IT, .WS . .COM.AU ....

Which platform of operating system do your servers use?

Our servers use Linux RHEL or Fedora and Apache Web Server, the best and the most reliable Internet server solution.

Primary: remus.eroute.net / 216.12.218.150
Secondary: jupiter.eroute.net / 216.180.238.150



Where are your servers located?

Our main servers are located at Dallas datacenter in US. And our back up servers are located in New Zealand.



What domain extensions can you host?

We can host any domains, all around the world. Of course we can host the popular COM, NET, ORG and EDU domains, but we also support all new domains such as .INFO and .BIZ. In addition to that, you can host any other country domain name such as .CO.UK




Application Support


Do you support ASP?

No. At these stage we use only Unix system and ASP pages are Windows based. We are looking at getting some windows servers in the future but, for the time being, these are not available.



Do you support Microsoft FrontPage?

Yes we have all the front page extensions included in a plan at no additional cost



Do you support Cold Fusion?

At this time we do not support Cold Fusion. Cold Fusion works best on NT or Win2k Server platforms whereaswe are a UNIX-only web host.



Do you support JSP / Servlets?
No JSP/Servlets are not supported on this plan. We do however have other plans that support JSP/servlets so contact us directly if you need these services.


What version of PHP are you supporting?

PHP 5.2.0



What version of MySQL are you running?

MySQL version 5.0.37.



How do I create and maintain MySQL database?

You can create and maintain your MySQL databases through PhpMyAdmin (most popular database administration tool today, or connect to MySQL server directly from your computer.



Can I add my own CGI scripts?

Our web servers have the capability to run CGI/Perl scripts in your own "cgi-bin" directory. Scripts may be written in Perl language.



Do you support FLASH?

Yes we have full support for Macromedia Flash



Do you support Shockwave?

Yes we have full support for Macromedia Shockwave



Do you support MP3 files?

Yes we support MP3 files. We recommend you consider one of the higher plans if your site has mp3 files because they generally use up a lot more bandwidth than standard files.



Do you support SSI's?

Yes.



Do you support SSL?

How much does SSL certificate cost?

To buy your own SSL certificate with 128-bit encryption the cost is $129/year (free installation)
The certificate will be installed on your account and ready to use within 24h of placing your order.

Another option is to "rent" and use our SSL Certificate. The cost is $20/mth.
This option will enable you to host your order forms and other pages containing sensitive information on OUR website and not have to buy your own SSL certificate.

Is there a Certificate Instalation fee?

There are no setup/installation fees.
If you're buying an SSL Certificate, we;ill install it on your account absolutely free of charge!
If you're renting it, you'll need to send us your order forms in an attachement to upload to the secure server/site where they will be housed. Note: Make sure you test your forms before sending them across for upload as there will be $10 service charge if they have to be uploaded more than 2x

Are your hosting plans upgradeable?What's the procedure?

You can upgrade your plan at any point and there is no charge for upgrading plans!
The upgrade procedure is very simple. Simply drop us an email requesting an upgrade and reset your payments to reflect the price difference (if you have a.p. setup then change the amount to the price of the plan you're upgrading to). If you have anybilling questions related to this don't hessitate to contact our billing detartment at billing@cheapwebhosting.co.nz



What happens when I exceed my bandwidth allowance?

You will be notified by email when you are approaching your limit.
Then you can decide whether you want to pay for extra bandwidth separately (@$5 for 5Gb) or, upgrade to a higher plan.



Is there a way to monitor my bandwidth so I know how much I'm using?

Yes, you can monitor your bandwidth through the web site stats that are included in each plan or through your control panel (www.yourdomain.com/admin/)



I have an Ecommerce web site. Which hosting plan does that go under?

An ecommerce site can be hosted under any plan. To choose which plan is best you will need to consider your storage and bandwidth requirements and whether your site has a database or not. If you're unsure and require further help contact us on hosting@cheapwebhosting.co.nz

Can you host international (country specific) domain names?

Yes we can host ANY international domain name, from ANY country.
We however can not register other country specific domains (apart from .nz domains) so you'll need to register your country specific domain at your local registry and then point your DNS to our servers (instructions will be given upon activation of your new account)



Will you place any flashing banners or ads on my site?

Absolutely Not. No advertising at all will be placed on your site.

How do I create and maintain MySQL database?

You can create and maintain your MySQL databases through PhpMyAdmin (most popular database administration tool today) or you can connect to MySQL server from your own computer.



Is my Macintosh computer compatible with your hosting plan?

Our web servers use standard FTP (file transfer protocol). Therefore, you can build your site on any Macintosh or PC and use FTP to upload your website files to the live web server from any platform or Operating System.




Payments


How long after I sign up will my account be set up?

Your account will be set up within 4 hours of you submitting an order form.
If you need to register a domain name through us we won't be able to activate your account and complete the registration until you've made the payment.
So, to summarize, if you already have a registered domain your account will be active 4h from submitting your order form (you'll have 7 days to make your 1st payment) and if you need to register a domain through us your account will be activated within 4h of you making your 1st payment (you'll need to email us to make sure we're aware you've paid).
All your account details and instructions will be sent to your email address as soon as the account is active.



Is there a minimum term contract?

Minimum period is 1 month! You can cancel your account at any time after that (there is no 30 day cancelation policy).
You can choose to pay monthly, quarterly or yearly.



Which currency are your prices in?

Our prices are in NZD & include GST.



What payment options do I have?

You can make a payment by either a bank deposit/automatic payment or cheque.
Minimum payment term for cheque payments is 3months/quarterly. There is no minimum term for bank payments.
All payment information will be emailed to you immediately after you submit our online order form.



Payment frequency/period?

You can choose to pay monthly, quarterly(every 3 months) or yearly.
Cheque payments have a minimum term of 3months/quarterly. There is no minimum term for bank payments.



Do you accept international orders?

Absolutel! We welcome potential clients from all over the world. We can even host your country specific domain name extension.
