tw2113, it's not a tremendous deal. It relies on social

Still sucks, though.
you can probably disable whatever it depends on in the

/etc/yum/yum-updatesd.conf does the x11 gui desktop have to
be running for this to work?
i want to change that file to auto download and install updates
or should i do this via a crontab -e job?
alpha255, yum-updatesd requires x.org if you want to use puplet,
yeah
Why? That's s a silly thing to do.
oh
well i did yum install wine. but i cant do anything with it.
i cant open wine file or wine config.
enviouz, why not?
so if the box is a server, how would you go about letting yum
update automatically
can open exe's either just says opening for like 5 mins then
does nothing
Then the world just has to listen when $RANDOM_PACKAGE got
updated when you didn't want it to.
?
alpha255, if the box is a server host you
should not automatically install updates.
Whether or not it's a "server" has nothing to do with
it.
enviouz, well what do you want to achieve?
alpha255 is a fool
well im trying to see if it will play any of my windows
games
envious, wine maintains an appdb.
enviouz, pop the cd in...
enviouz, cd into the dir and issue "wine setup.exe2
enviouz, cd into the dir and issue "wine setup.exe"
do i need a jester hat too?
enviouz, http://appdb.winehq.org/appbrowse.php
che its just an exe setup file i have
enviouz, or however the exe is called
enviouz, same way to go
They once release a kernel that couldn't ptrace
enviouz, before you experiment with wine and gaming though a few
advices
che just duble cllick the exe right?
Anduin, don't kernel's get rpm -i vs rpm -U with yum?
enviouz, doubleclicking should also work but for testing its
wise to do it on the shell first
enviouz, because you can see more output then
alpha255, yes. You're missing the point.
enviouz, glxinfo |grep direct returns yes?
ok, i'm off to bed
ahh ok ill try that once. just do wine "path to exe"
right?
it's not a mission critical system
night everyone
night
enviouz, means you have direct rendering working?
Sure, just one rather glaring instance where things are
overlooked. The F7 update installer will not work if you have a
single blank line in /etc/modprobe.conf, just saying maybe your
faith is best spent elsewhere.
hey
enviouz, in some cases you have to be in the same directory
as the exe
enviouz, depends...
Anduin, true, i can buy that
enviouz, else the working dir is different and the exe cant
find some things
hey fan
hey
If it's not a mission-critical system, then why do you think you
need to do updates on some sort of schedule?
i am in need of a little help with setting up my wireless

Anduin, what about at cron job that tells me that there are
updates ready and need to be installed
mwilson, updating is a good idea
alpha255, that's what yum-updatesd does.
Did I ever say it wasn't?
ferrum, it needs the gui though right?
mwilson, did i ever say you said that? :')
gui / x11 / gnome / kde / next window environment
alpha255, not necessarily. iirc it communicates via that...

Fanactism, i have to leave for work soon
ok thanks anyways
Fanactism, what wireless card do you have?
atheros
humm, maybe i should use centos or something less cutting
edge
i was trying to set up madwifi
k ill check that out. glxinfo |grep direct (does
nothing)
with no luck
enviouz, yum install glx-utils

nothing to do
glxinfo |grep direct returns nothing?
nothing at all
enviouz, issue plain "glxinfo"
enviouz, is there output?
hey guys, what happened to kwifimanager in fedora 7?
daemoen, not sure but tried knetworkmanager yet?

i'm having trouble booting into F7 as my videodrivers are not

Spaceknarf, nvidia ?
what is the boot parameter to get into the commandline?
no, ati
all i want is a nice bar based meter
daemoen, knetworkmanager does... if you use kde thats probably
what you want to try
daemoen, it requires the NetworkManager service running
append 3 and remove rhgb if it is there
che, any idea what i may need to do?
enviouz, Fanactism i will be back on later again
ok
thanks
in like an hour or so
aok thanks
ok*
Anduin, i'll try, just a sec
i guess someone else can also help you guys out
well apparently my problem is common
enviouz, what vidcard is it?
enviouz, su -
enviouz, lspci |grep VGA
i have ati xpert 128 (rage)
bbl
ok so anyone else who could possibly help me with my wireless
problem?
Anduin, thanks, I only removed rhgb and it works
can you point me to some site with a description of the
bug?
was that directed at me space?
no, at Anduin
bugzilla.redhat.com (though I don't know it is a bug, just how
to disable rhgb and not boot to X)
knetworkmanager seems like it would be nice, but it cant even
authenticate to it properly
it fails to acquire the static ip hosting address.
wlassistant has no problems though, rather amusing
Anduin, https://bugzilla.redhat.com/bugzilla/show_bug.cgi?id=192857
seems to describe the problem
I had the same problem with FC5 back then, and the same problem has
returned now
Spaceknarf, fglrx is known non-working
hmm
i'm using the radeon drivers at this moment
I rebooted, and all is fine
keep at it then From what I understand, the problem is on
ATI's side. Don't know any technical details.
hm ok
compiz doesn't work on fglrx drivers either
so there's no real use for me to switch
hey ferrum could you help me with my problem?
Fanactism, is it brief? I haven't slept in two days and I was
just heading off to bed.
well
lol
idk
here
i am having trouble with my wireless connection
hardware? software? driver?
just guess.
well i was attempting to use madwifi
Fanactism, what card do you have?
atheros
its an atheros card
alright
that's a chipset
yes, yes. Madwifi. What's the issue?
well not quite sure how to use it
followed the tutorial
nothing went like it was supposed to
http://fedoramobile.org/fc-wireless/madwifi-yum-livna/
google and fedoramobile are your best bets.
thanks

if an app works fine with wine on one pc it should work fine on

wine wont open period
Does anyone know how to make an rt73 device connect on boot?
The system-config-network tool doesn't recognize the
device.
Unhandled page fault on write access to 0x00000078 at address
0x60b29148 (thread 0009)
thats when trying to open notepad
http://fedoramobile.org/fc-wireless/rt2x00-wireless-lan-chipset/
might help you
fsck, Thanks for helping, but I'm using the rt73 legacy drivers
and the net config tool doesn't detect the device.
Thanks anyway though!
shouldnt i have a wine directory in my home folder?
.wine
from that i can tell that howto should help you.
fsck, it would if the Network config detected my device
I've got the wireless working - I just need a bootscript or
somesuch to connect on boot
as it is, I'm having to manually run the iwconfig's every time I
restart
i thought so too but i dont have the .wine directory. only
wine directoory ive found iis /usr/lib/wine
rpm -qa | grep wine
listed 12 wine packages
anyone know how to burn divx formated movie to CD disc for

I know this may be a #livna question (but not much happening

up anytime I try to shutdown the x-server (cntl-alt-baclspace or
Shutdown). Seems the new driver has to be the issue as that is when
it started.
nvm found the .wine directory. still no go though. idk maybe
wine just doesnt work with my pc
Does anyone know how to turn off forward/backward via
right/left scrolling in Firefox?
wfarr, i dont think you can
hello everyone, I have a problem with RSSOwl and JDK6u1 from
Sun
wfarr, i havent found the config option in firefox which lets
me disable it
Hmm
wfarr, ive looked
probably have to disable it at the Xorg level
RSSOwl run fine with GCJ, but cannot run with JDK6u1
wfarr, you shouldnt have to..
does anyone know why?
hi there
wfarr, stupid firefox should let you reconfigure what those
xevents mean
|DrJef|, shouldn't and aren't are two different things much
of the time
wfarr, so that its actually a horizontal scroll
heh
wfarr, there are configs for horizontal scroll... as modifiers
to mouse buttons
i have a booting problem with fc6
wfarr, for the blasted mouse wheel
anyone to help?
wfarr, which is retarded....
heh
touchpad here
wfarr, i know
I always accidentally go back
-_-
wfarr, the fact that firefox has configs for mousewheel
mods... but not for the actual trackpad events for horizontal
scroll.. is absolutely stupid
:s
I'd file a bug upstream then
I managed to turn them off at some stage..
they don't work here either
I'll probably just disable it in Xorg altogether
I rarely horizontal scroll
so I'm not that worried
wfarr, actually,,,maybe ive found it
oh?
wfarr, touchpad horizonal scroll acts as buttons 6 and 7
Aye.
What's the key in about:config?
all i was supposed to do to get wine working is do yum install
wine correct?
wfarr, nope sorry not what i thought
yes it does
wfarr, there's nothing in firefox config to map buttons 6 and
7
wine works well
wont even open for me LarryYuma
i could not understand enviouz
|DrJef|, Yeah I'll just disable it altogether then
mutk, in firefox or by screwing wht the trackpad settings in
xorg?
well i did yum install wine. installed fine or so i thought.
cant open any windows programs. cant open wine config. cant open
regedit. cant open notepad
mutk, firefox is really really stupid about it.... hard
coding buttons 6 and 7 to the stupid page history
well there were two more packges to install
mutk, i think most other things do it correctly...
inkscape... openoffice...evince... the horizonal trackpad scroll is
actually useful in them
one was for windows cabinet extractor
mutk, as navigation when a horizontal scroll is
available
i don't remeber the other one
theya rent installed as part of the dependancies?
i beleive they are not
nootepad and wine config should open though anyway
right?
as i can not boot my fedora machine i can not say which packeges
they were
yes they should be
well when i do wine notepad i get the following
Unhandled page fault on write access to 0x00000078 at address
0x60bb3148 (thread 0009), starting debugger...
wfarr, good news!!!!
ask google for how to install ie6 with wine
oh?
wfarr,
http://www.macosxhints.com/article.php?story=20050821141856688&lsrc=osxh
somebody has written a script for it
wfarr, it is in there.. its just frelling obscure
setting
:P
it will install both wine and ie
k ill try that
check your wine arcitectur is it i386 or x64
it must be competible with your distro
anyone to help on my booting problem?
it is i386
and your fedora is?
wfarr, most annoying thing on my laptop...solved
I can reciprocate =P
i386
f7
Realistically speaking, there's only one more qualm I have
yet to solve before I'm perfectly content.
|DrJef|, Sorry, I was distracted by real work.. I actually don't
recal what I did. Pretty sure it was simply disabled it altogether
in Xorg
mutk, thats okay.. i found hte magik config
well it mst work
what really oinks me is it works fine on my other pc
is there a recomended way to install java6 on f7 ?
or fc6 ?
update your pc enviouz or remove wine and reinstall it
ive gotten all updates. reinstalled wine about 10 times.
still no luck. my other pc works fine with it and its about 8 years
older

hi
Anyone recall if Thunderbird stores its message filters in a
specific file or something?
In an effort to make the rules portable and stuff.
hello
i m thinking about a solution for ghost the fedora for install it
really quick
i have to install it ona lot of computer (all the computer are
same)
kickstart
do you have an idea for the tools i have to use
PrMoriarty, there ino ghost in fedora :P
?
PrMoriarty, search for kickstarts on google
kickstarts ^
^^
thank you
np.
it s can work for a pxe server?
http://docs.fedoraproject.org/install-guide/f7/en_US/sn-automating-installation.html
or i mean a ghost server
cool
You can use kickstart in conjunction with PXE.
PrMoriarty, also by the side look for cobbler. really cool
piece of code. that support pxe + kickstarts etc. etc.
humm
with cobbler i have installed around 20 machines in no time
:P
cool ^^
i have a trouble
i mean i can install all the disk hda?
or just the installed partition?
can you re-frame the question ?
Not understanding, sorry.
lol..
if all my hda is not use and i ghost it
re-re-frame it
sorry my boss was around me
tchecking kickstart
kickstart is just an automatic installation?
Yes.
it s not a copy of an image
right?
Correct.
arf
i really want to use a ghost
it s the fast thing everseen
(on microsoft system i m sure)
So then use Ghost.
Last time I looked it supported ext2.
humm
i heard a tricks
someone said me to use the instruction "dd"
for copy all the hda bytes per bytes
You don't want that unless you're *certain* all machines have
*exactly* the same hard drive.
and it will create a *.raw stuff
i m sure they have the same hard drive
the same chipset
etc etc
hi, is there no kermit programm for fedora ?
i mean F7 ?
i m going to use it but i don t know really how it
works
Doesn't look it.
maybe you used it in the past?
Yes, but not for that.
ohh ok
it s dangerous?
i m sure all the machine are ame
Basically you do "dd if=/dev/hda of=disk.img bs=16M" to make
your image.
yum provides kermit, dose not show anything...
You do "dd if=disk.img of=/dev/hda BS=16M" to restore
it.
lol cool
Actually, with F7 it will be sda.
But you get the point.
humm
i m on a FC4
You can probably get a ckermit SRPM from... FC3 maybe.
cause they are lazy to upgrade an internal soft work on
this
ahh ok thanks
I sincerely hope you're not going to put FC4 on the new
machines...
arf sorry
my computer shutdown
(cable disconnet)
aah
yes @ work it s hell
i can t touch any cable without a DC
we thought it was just FC4 ;-)
lol
arf my desktop is ubuntu
that should definitely do the trick, yes
but the user have a fedora core 4
(server application)
i think the developper think the migration is a little
difficult
FC7
as a developper, those are his challenges
FC5 if going EOL in a couple of weeks. You *really* don't
want to be running FC4 on anything.
bFC5 if going EOL in a couple of weeks. You *really* don't want
to be running FC4 on anything./b
yeah, you don't want that...
ouch
let me just say this
what person in his right mind runs production on an engineering
distribution with a 6-month release cycle and support for just
barely over a year?
ohw, and in addition complains the migration is rather
difficult
who said I was complaining about migrating it?
no-one did, who said you were saying that?
PrMoriarty is doing something like that ?
well at the very minimum he has someone on the phone that
does that
;-)
:P i think i heard someone doing fc4 to f7 here
was it you evil_steve ?
no
oh
Centos 4.5
humm
nice
the last is FC7 ,no.
C5
PrMoriarty, try to realize the truth
cool
PrMoriarty, there is no FC7
and by the way i heard near the machine developper want to
use the centos
machine coffe*
and it s not the 1st time i hear people on FC want to go on
centos
i bet they're not big fans of RAD
(dunno why really..)
i saw some great explanation about the "c" in fc for f7 in a
mailing list of fedora. the person in context was arguing about
package names ending with "fc7"
that's just people not understanding why it went away from
core
if you follow the instructions for atrpms, they still think
there is a FC7
aah. atrpms.
hey
I need some help with Beryl
tried googling, but no solution
can't get Beryl working, and I keep getting a TON of 'extension
"SHAPE" missing on display ":0,0"'
DarkUranium, /join #beryl
well, can I ask about something else then
I got another problem -

yes tell what sound card you have
Soundcard Detection ... doesn't find your card?
it find it, but doesn't work

of course

probably has to do with the output...
it's optical ATM
Wanna answer openbysource's question?
optical sound? huh
VIA Technologies
yes, optical
lspci -v and paste the output over to http://rafb.net/paste
through an optical cable
never heard sound via optical cable
it's 5.1
sometimes coaxial is used
sometimes just 10 different plugs for each speaker
and sometimes - like in my case - optical
Check the notes on the ALSA website about your card.

problem
Main problem I have with solving my own problems is not knowing
where to look for the solution and not knowing what could have
caused it
keep hanging around you will soon learn :P
also google helps lots :P
Yeah, been using that a lot too. This really beats the first
time I tried running linux back in 97
Been trying to run it as my primary desktop on and off since then.
Now me and my business is finally totally migrated
/proc/fs/cifs/LinuxExtensionsEnabled)
/etc/sysctl.conf ?
is that a question?
thank you
root can print, normal user not
guys, did anyone read through my logs
darkuranium, yes and i have no idea about that card. look
into google and alsa project website
gtg
bye
whats the easiest printer install module? i am not too fond of
cups?
'printer install module' ?
CUPS is the printing subsystem. Deal.
like alternative to cups
non-sense. What vendor do you expect to support a new
printing subsys used a 10 people in the world ?
ok well cups isnt working
it just work.
iv been trying to make it work for 3 days
CoolGuy21, what is the problem ? explain
why dont you try to expose your *real* problem, instead of
trying to implement a *fake* solution ?
Anvil i have tryed for 3 days
you get tired of it
I havent seen you.
ok heres what happens
give me 10 min let me get the server up k
hi
Any Swedish in here?
hello

Did you verify the checksum and/or test the media?
ok i will check the media now for errors
Found my box 'frozen' this morning, i.e. no login when I hit

where can I find the cause (nothing in messages)?
Panic?
fixed!
how can I memtest with Fedora 7 DVD? It complains "could not
find kernel image memtest86"
Anvil are you therE?
do you use KDE?
yes, forgot to mention that..
you can prioritize your web browzer using the control center
file associations
CoolGuy21, can ya tell the problem
you can prioritize your web browzer using the control center
file associations
ok, so that's the way it's done? I can't remember doing that on
FC6
openbysource let me copy paste into paste bin
I am not sure that is the way it is done, but it might get
you there.
CoolGuy21, sure
oh well, whatever works
thanks.
a shot in the dark
are there any alternatives rpm to install zope/plone in F7
?
it's behaving a bit different (i.e. it takes a bit longer), but
I can live with that
did that get the results you desired?
well, it applies to all kde apps, I'm not quite sure I want
it that way
but apart from that it works reasonably well
openbysource hwo do i set a dns server for the ethernet?
sorry I don't know an explicit fix, go figure
CoolGuy21, well you need to know about bind
:P
lol
I'll have to look at xchat, I guess
CoolGuy21, what kind of dns server. primary dns server ?
openbysource there was like setup-network
yes, for the ethernet card
CoolGuy21, that is not server. that is called setting dns
client
ah ok
i guess so. if i am correct
how do i setup the dns client?
CoolGuy21, what version of fedora ?
im in command line
CoolGuy21, /etc/resolv.conf
edit this file and write the ip address of the dns server.
CoolGuy21, like for e.g: nameserver 192.168.0.1
that means 192.168.0.1 is the dns server and the client will
look to it for any name resolving queries
"/usr/lib/cups/backend/socket failed"
is it just this ?
yes do u have a fix for it?
i probably guess the cups service is not running.
CoolGuy21, give a pastebin of ps aux | grep cups
aah it's running the cupsd
which is?
ok what do i need to do to get this going?
when do you get this error
hi guys, I can't run memtest from my fedora 7 DVD. It complains
"could not find kernel image memtest86"
im logged into port 631, i do test print and thats when it
takes the printer offline and shows this message
i guess probably more informative error can help. look into
/var/log for any log files
openbysource http://pastebin.ca/561121
That's because it's not on there.
anyone know a good ftp with a gui so i can ease myself into
seting up an ftp with linux?
I have tried googling
moonchos just use webmin
ok cheers I'll look it up
Where did you get the printer driver from?
ivazquez, so how do I run memtest? The installation guide said I
could run memtest
ivazquez from Konica Minolta website
ivazquez,
http://printer.konicaminolta.com/support/current_printers/mc2530dl_sup.htm#Drivers
http://www.memtest.org/
Then ask them for support. It sounds like a bug in the
driver.
CoolGuy21, why is it that you are going into SSL handshake
?
i dont know its from the web interface i think
ivazquez, thanks, but do you mean the official Fedora
installation guide is screwed
openbysource, what do we do?
Yes. Log a bug.
ivazquez, OK. Off to bugzilla. Thanks!
CoolGuy21, look for open source printer drivers here http://www.cups.org/ppd.php
openbysource k
none

SSS`: hdc1 is the first partition on the third ATA hard
drive, if you have only just installed a new disk it cant have
partitions on it allready unless you creaed them on another

CoolGuy21, i would suggest to open a support ticket at
KonicaMinolta
eh
there never gonna do anything
oliau its formated as NTFS no partions what should i do
SSS`: ok, do you want to reformat it or do you want to keep
the ntfs partition?

data on there :P
