don't those have to have a realm though?
yeah, kill that entropy

how do i go about hashing passwords?
thanks
htdigest?
i heard htdigest was http://httpd.apache.org/docs-2.0/programs/htdigest.html
b0lt, For what purpose? Apache?

i'm modifying a current installation
and i didn't see anything about this format of passwd file in
the svn documentation
maybe i missed it, or something
Did you ask the experts in #svn?
you make a good point
also, it looks like the passwords are md5 (?)
at least, htpasswd -nm generates passwords of the same
format
yeah, that's the new style hash
it doesn't look anything like a standard md5sum ;p
is it salted?
i believe it's base-64
no
it's longer than the hex md5, though
anyone know how to use gdb?
it's got some leading stuff identifying the encryption

many people do.

this is #apache, however.

yup, it's in our manual.
hi all...i've just installed and configured my apache2 in
openSuse...but when i access the site that i configured....it says
i have no permission to access the directory...
performance
i think performance is http://httpd.apache.org/docs/misc/perf-tuning.html
or http://httpd.apache.org/docs-2.0/misc/perf-tuning.html
do i just add "KeepAlive off" to turn it off?
anybody knows witch directory i need to change
permissions?
what does the error log say, exactly?
"You don't have permission to access the requested directory.
There is either no index document or the directory is
read-protected."
verbatim
Verbatim means "word for word" "copy and paste". It means we
want the exact error message from the error log. That also means
use a pastebin for 3 lines. Ask me about 'apc' for which pastebin
to use.
what does the error log say, exactly?
thumbs, ^
that's not from the error log.
its in the browser...its the error i see..where is the
log?
Yes if that is what you desire. Keepalivetimeout 1 is a nice
compramise in most cases
error log
Look for the ErrorLog directive in your configuration file.
Common locations include /var/log/apache/error_log,
/var/log/httpd/error_log, /usr/local/apache/logs/error_log, and
"C:/Program Files/Apache Software
Foundation/Apache/[version]/logs/error.log"
ModPerl::PerlRun seems to be randomly resetting things/not
resetting thigs... figured it could be that
what's the symptom exactly?
sometimes the header gets printed sometimes it doesnt. i use
variable declared using my outside any function to keep track of
whether it has been printed or not
i can't figure out the cause
*using strict
request header?
hrm?
ok...problem fixed!
i was in the wrong directory
well... changing keepalive didn't do it
you said the header gets printed only some of the time, the
client sends the request header
yeah I didnt suspect it would, why I was prying for details
the resonse header. sometimes it gets sent, others it
doesn't.
so the page loads as plain text when it doesn't
intesting, is it being sent but invalid?
isn't that a standard mod_perl gotcha?
doesn't mod_perl keep track of sending headers for you?
ive never used it
i haven't used it for ages.
i'm using CGI.pm actually... i've tries it using the apache
api
host and get the exact same problem
I have a feeling you have used everything once
once is sometimes enough
i should note that immediately after sever restart it always
loads correctly
you might try setting LogLevel Debug to get more clues
i'd guess that it's your global variable.
globals are not reset from request to request, and keepalive
doesn't make a difference
wow
is there an htaccess channel?
they're declared using my though. i thought the whole point
of ModPerl::PerlRun was to eliminate that issue
dunno then
bugger
did you set perl warnings
on?
yes
add some debug to the perl code?

hi...im trying to install mod_ruby in opensuse...but i dunno
where is the apache directory.....
ive already tried some....
anybody could help me?
distros?
distros sometimes mangle your apache installation, putting
apache and its files in different places to the standard. It's hard
for us on #apache to help if your installation is mutilated this
way
oops
oops is, like, an understatement... :P

Hi. What is an easy way for me to keep current logging
measures in plcae, while add all logging to syslog?
Can I have two ErrorLog statements in one configuration?
yes
is there a tool that I can run which takes an access_log file
and gives me stats related to page visits, and whois records of the
visitors
theres a ton of them
i'm trying to find out some information related to who is

i'm wandering which is way to go to use python with fastcgi
dead channel?
nope but quite many are sleeping due to their timezone
com'on... it's @ 289 (internet time)
ppl shouldn't be sleeping by now
just like any other CGI, i guess
yeah... but how shall i install fastcgi... using
mod_fastcgi?
mod_python - but a friend of mine told me that it has different
rights than normal cgi hosting
and that if mod_python writes a file down or loads a file up i
would have a total mess with the rights
i wonder if it's the same for mod_fastcgi
sleep is for suckers
I'm too new to running servers/apache to admin fast and

is CPanel any good?
wait
just a sec
ok

you don't need to read all the docs
ISPConfig
ISPConfig is 2up and running...everything works fine....but
phpo
yeah!
i was faster again
ISPConfig, eh?
do you have a vserver?
what distribution do you have on your server?
I have RHEL ES
Yes, I would like to run vhosts
uuuff... redhat
it won't work with RH?
(debian! debian! debian!)
hehe
Yeah I know
(otherwise ubuntu! ubuntu! ubuntu!)
but the ISP I that hosts my server will only
install CentOS, RHEL, or FreeBSD
(or gentoo! gentoo! gentoo!)
(freeBSD! freeBSD! freeBSD!)
so I should have gone FreeBSD?
no
FreeBSD is like hell if you want new packages
that is the only option that matches
oh
i have a nice ISP, it gives you to choose out of 7 or 8
distributions
debian, gentoo and ubuntu included
what do you use?
isp and distro?
well... i have chosen nine.ch and ubuntu 7.04
Also, I just downloaded the tar.gz of ISPConfig to my
server.. should I install it?

good morning
If it is a good morning, which I doubt
why when do I try to go to my site my apache is not able to
recognize the index.pl file. I have loaded the module and settin-up
directives
exactly how does it NOT recodgnize it?
Does it display it as text, or does it not take index.pl as
your
DirectoryIndex
DirectoryIndex is http://httpd.apache.org/docs/2.0/mod/mod_dir.html#directoryindex
or http://httpd.apache.org/docs/mod/mod_dir.html#directoryindex
jMcg, shows a windows saying if i want to save the file
have I to add DirectoryIndex index.pl to my httpd.conf?
well.. if you want index.pl to be searched automagickally when
entering a directory....
no erros are showed in the error.log
Anyways......
CGI or mod_perl?
well that is what I have got defined
http://pastebin.ca/594981
but the apps try to look for in otrs/bin/cgi-bin/index.pl
tries
it is rather as cgi
right now I'm not quite sure if Alias is evaluated before or
after Location.....
But considering your logs, I'd say... after.
jMCg, these directions camo from the app's install
directions
Would make sense... Location is part of core --- Alias is part
of.. uhm.... some module...
go to the app's devs and scream at them.
I like doing that.. worls most of the time...
you're lying.
http://doc.otrs.org/2.1/en/html/x325.html#webserver-configuration
/some/otherplace. Any ideas for good search terms on
this?
what is the best performing worker on linux?
how bout.. userdir?
userdir
userdir is http://httpd.apache.org/docs-2.0/mod/mod_userdir.html#userdir
or http://httpd.apache.org/docs/mod/mod_userdir.html#userdir
or See userdir without ~
or mass vhosts
ask about mass vhost
let me read up on this.
I think worker, but I'm not sure...
jMCg, http://pastebin.ca/594988
User foo and bar are not users on the operating system (unix),
but http authenticated users.
So I think mod userdir is not the right thing?
they are the app's directions
that is unbelivible
I didn't know that.
sorry I didnt mention it in the 1st place.
Boys it's 9 in the morning.. I'm having my very first coffee
of doom.
Sorry if I'm a LITTLE slow....
you are gonna use Directory [with the full path earliar specified
in the Alias] -- NOT location.
event seesm the snazziest, but no ssl certificates
hosting is kinda a show stopper?
1230am here in los angeles
shemale time
for you, I'll have to invest some more thinking here....
yep
please speak english.
ok
http://doc.otrs.org/2.1/en/html/x325.html#webserver-configuration
btw.. if this is the otrs, you're talking about, then the docs look
fine to me. I don't know what docs YOU ARE REFERING TO.
hm
jMCg I a using the one attached to the tar.gz but well, that
is a mess. I can't believe both docs are differents
is there any online doc about how to optimize apache ?
I suggest you just compile a few versions of apacche with
different workers and do benchmarks on your apps in your enviroment
so you know what works best for you.
performance
performance is http://httpd.apache.org/docs/misc/perf-tuning.html
or http://httpd.apache.org/docs-2.0/misc/perf-tuning.html
jMCg, what about perl on there. It is not mentioned.
maybe %{REMOTE_USER} for RewriteCond might be a start...
not sure, but IIRC, DrB said that LA-U is expensive,
though.
even so, I get the same error
it is like my apache does not recognize the pl extension
browser cache
Browser caches can be very persistent. Restarting the browser,
or even rebooting, will not necessarily clear the cache. You must
expressly clear the cache via the menus.
I have done it
yes, sometimes happens
how do I do a benchmark?
windows
windows broken, please use door
it is the typical windows that says text/x-perl bla bla
bla
benchmark
siege, apachebench, jmeter, flood, grinder, httperf
^
what else could I check?
step one...
whatever the problem, step one is to look in the error log (and
any other logs that may apply, such as suexec, mod_rewrite, or
mod_security).
step 0
somebody said step 0 was to insert a Linux or BSD CD
http://pastebin.ca/594999
I have no errors
well, I have got one for *.ico but I think it is
irrelevant
7 2007] [error] [client 172.31.2.9] client denied by server
configuration:
the power of the web!!!!
apache!!!
somebody said apache was the wrong tool for that.
ProxyPass /portal http://172.31.1.2/portal
I have become more powerful than any jeddiii!!
Whats LA-U?
LA-U is Ua flag that does a look-ahead for a variable that isn't
defined yet, like REMOTE_USER
Oh, ah.
Maybe I should go on writing my own apache module, as the
directory/DocumentRoot should be looked up in a database.
do you have mod_proxy_http loaded?
i don t think so
i have mod_proxy loaded
you need mod_proxy_http for http support (apache2)
exactly which configuration are you using? The one I linked
you? The one with CGI or the one with mod_perl? Are your scripts
executable by the apache user, etc, etc... basics boy!
BASICS!
Morning lamp -- welcome to a wonderful day in #Apache
yours, yes
morning
do you have mod_cgi loaded?
yes, I have check it out
checked
hmmm but you said my scripts executable by the apache user
my app is in my home
and apache is executing as www-data (in debian), that is to say,
the default debian apache user
but, just in case, I have added the app's user to apache's
user
Im enjoying holding a festering shit, liek almost pleasing
im guna wait untilI can baerly hold it
then bam
lamp, now proxy_http is loaded but it goes on to tell me that
the access is denied
what is the exact error message?
7 2007] [error] [client 172.31.2.9] client denied by server
configuration:
the situation is as follows. From time to time, lets say 1000
users per day, will browse to http://host/, they need to authenticate in the
1st place. After that they should get their content which can be
done by different DocumentRoot's (to my eyes).
but portal is not a local directory
would you care to like.. take that somewhere else?
and you have mod_proxy and mod_proxy_http and you stopped and
started apache?
yeah
if yes, then maybe you could pastebin proxy parts of your
configuration
do you have some Proxy blocks or like that besides your
ProxyPass...
"the content" is a whole website per user which needs to be
accessed by http://host/
well, it should have done by this time, so I have failed in my
attempt. Sometimes thing are more difficult than they usual look.
Thank everybody anyways.
have -be
yeah.. I'm just trying to make sense of this and fit it into
HTTP...
that looks ok, are you sure there isn't other
directives?
the users are customers. they should preview their website under
http://previewhost/
so no group-based hack either..... great
ipcs
i think ipcs is a command line util.
ipcrm
ipcrm is sthe command to remove SysV IPC artifacts possibly
left around from apache processes that were not shutdown
properly
found lamp !
If I'd know a basic simple apache module which deals with the
terms DocumentRoot, Authentication, I'd probably have a texteditor
and some time for creating my own module.
debian has a proxy.conf in mods-available where there is a
deny from all
http://tldp.org/LDP/lpg/node25.html
this is great... I like the last sentence...
what useful information can I obtain from ipcs...
hi
I have apache2.2, SSL, and a problem with IE
there is a form where the user POSTs a CSV file
and in IE, at first the browser doesn't send the content but
just stops after transmitting the request headers
it then displays one of those IE error pages we love so
much
the user hits back, then the submit button again, and it works
any idea what could cause this?
it used to work with apache1.3, fwiw
Guy-: uhm... how did you upgrade from 1.3 to 2.2...?
Guy-: did you just move the new config files and started away?
s/new/old/
moved to a new box, installed and configured apache2.2 from
scratch
(obviously I copied the certificate from the old box)
oh, and the error only affects IE6; IE7 is fine, as is firefox
and opera
Guy-: take a look at extra/httpd-ssl.conf -- if you compiled
apache yourself.
I use the canned Debian version
do you have a specific setting in mind?
Guy-: I do.
I'm playing with SSLCipherSuite now
which one?
BrowserMatch ".*MSIE.*" \ nokeepalive ssl-unclean-shutdown \
downgrade-1.0 force-response-1.0
I have this:
./apache2.conf: BrowserMatch "MSIE 4\.0b2;" nokeepalive
downgrade-1.0 force-response-1.0
Guy-: change it to the above and test again.
OK
actually, I've just tested with "SSLCipherSuite ALL" but still
the old BrowserMatch line and it worked this time
will try ssl-unclean-shutdown now
Guy-: this is because IE SUCS
(with the default SSLCipherSuite
you don't need to tell me that
'HIGH:!MD5:!ADH' yields quite okay results.
awesome, ssl-unclean-shutdown did the trick
thanks a lot
MSIE--
how much karma does it have?
karma msie
msie has karma of -7
Guy-: too much, obviously.
karma ie
ie has karma of -3
that's what I was thinking
karma firefox
firefox has karma of -1
I'm not sure it was actually ssl-unclean-shutdown though
maybe it was nokeepalive
can't see ssl-unclean-shutdown documented for 2.2...
Guy-: does it complain about it?
If it doens't, it should maybe be documented.....
it doesn't complain
but it's not documented under mod_ssl or mod_setenvif
Guy-: if you give me a link to 2.0 or 1.3 where it IS
documented, I'll bug the docs crew
a moment
hi. i have two drives with identical contents. the first
drive is local to the apache machine (windows server 2003).
DocumentRoot "d:/htdocs" works. z is a mapped network drive.
DocumentRoot "z:/htdocs" doesn't work (apache won't start).
unhelpfully, there are no errors on the log.
anyone know the problem?
all I could find was http://httpd.apache.org/docs/2.0/ssl/ssl_faq.html
and what the option does exactly isn't explained there either
http://mail-archives.apache.org/mod_mbox/httpd-dev/200511.mbox/%3C20051122135629.03A2882D02@cmcodec02.st1.spray.net%3E
gives some hints, but this isn't documentation, as such
Guy-: http://httpd.apache.org/docs/2.2/ssl/ssl_faq.html
it's about as documented as for 2.0 -- but you're right.. it does't
say what it's doing.
SendFile
Don't you mean enablesendfile?
http://httpd.apache.org/docs/2.0/mod/core.html#enablesendfile
this is just one of those magic options, obviously
Roobarb-Work: i'll take a look
bit of a WAG though
wag?
wag is Wild Ass Guess
k
Guy-: http://httpd.apache.org/docs/2.2/mod/mod_ssl.html
can't see it here either..
well look at thsi benchmark!
no, that's where I looked first
Guy-: I'm getting this feeling, that this stuff has been
introduced for MSIE only.
Guy-: I'm getting this feeling, that this stuff has been

asp?

asp on apache?
hmmm... asp on apache is http://httpd.apache.org/docs/misc/FAQ.html#asp
or mod_mono or chilisoft or mod_aspdotnet
no idea which one is preferred
yes, I read it
i'm not following you...
As I never tried anyone, I'd like to ask for an advice
i'm not following you...
I know I can use Apache::ASP or mod_mono or Chilisoft ASP
I'd like to know advantages and disadvantages of these
choices
hey there.. is there a way to restrict out basic only to a

Hi Rince.
hoi reiffert
Any ideas on "different DocumentRoots on a per authenticated
user basis"?
on _user_?
tricky
my way would be an index.php using the $user-variable
childsplay
you can't have different documentroot's but you could do e.g.
rewriting based on REMOTE_USER
Can I have different documentroots when writing an apache
module?
give each user you want to impress thier own
URL
tell us a URL where the problem happens
for the unwashed amsses fuck em, give em index.html
masses
or be superlazy
and jsut give same page but have a login place thier name at the
top
as if its 'custom'
lol
huh
Please state the nature of your computing emergency
Hi Igor2
hello
i have a problem concerning mod_rewrite when using zend
framework. i have an apache 2.2.4 build from source and php
(shared) and rewrite (static). dumping modules shows
uprewrite_module (static).
now:
i created an .htaccess file with contents:
RewriteEngine on
RewriteEngine On is required if you plan to actually *use* your
RewriteRules rather than collect them
RewriteRule !\.(js|ico|gif|jpg|png|css)$ index.php
is it okay to RewriteEngine on in the .htaccess file?
RewriteEngine context?
server config, virtual host, directory, .htaccess
AllowOverride?
AllowOverride tells Apache what things you wish to permit in
.htaccess files. See http://httpd.apache.org/docs/2.2/mod/core.html#allowoverride
*looking*
(AllowOverride Fileinfo is required)
do i place that in httpd.conf?
ah
AllowOverride None is current setting in httpd.conf
so Fileinfo is the one i need, right?
garbage?
try putting junk in your htaccess file. If it's being read, you
will get an Internal Server Error when accessing that
resource.
ok
e-voc: and one thing, you probably need RewriteCond to
prevent rewrite-loop with your RewriteRule
oh
http://framework.zend.com/manual/en/zend.controller.html#zend.controller.quickstart
shiver
:|
what do i need about RewriteRule?
hmh, either way, the .htaccess file is not being processed
i entered "bla" in there
apache should crash with that?
e-voc: no idea
e-voc: well, just see whether it works fine and if it does then
nothing. If .htaccess is not being read, then you need to edit your
AllowOverride setting from configuration files (there could be
several AllowOverride's, edit the right one)
e-voc: if .htaccess was processed, it would give error 500
http://phpfi.com/245807
oh
there _is_ another one
now i get 500
nice
it works now

is it of importance if mod_rewrite is links static or shared?
currently it's static
not really especially when you are using mod_rewrite
rewrite_module (static)
from "....apachectl -t -D DUMP_MODULES"
if it was shared and you were not using it, then you could
omit loading that module
ahok
oh, i see..
