try boot option noapci
sure, i appreciate that... its just that fedora correctly
identified my installation as v. 5 and seemed to upgrade very
smoothly, except for this one thing.
how did you install ndis?
yum install ndiswrapper
openbysource, http://paste.biz/paste-2403.html
Sonar_Guy, was that directed to me?
yes
http://fedoramobile.org/wireless
there are 2 howtos there that may pertain to you
u0m3, is the sound card detected ?
openbysource, yes
so no sound coming out of it ?
u0m3, is it a soundblaster card, thouogh
openbysource, no sound out of speakers...
?
try to change the volume controls and check if there is
something that is muted
Arfdee, no.. don't think so... It is a conexant wakiki on
ICH7
thanks mate
openbysource, I tried that... I even rebuilded alsa-driver,
alsa-lib, alsa-oss, alsa-utils from sources
u0m3, i think you were not supposed to that because it might
have worked if you tried enabling/disabling the internal modem from
within the bios. (i think so)
I would file a bug report at bugzilla.redhat.com and provide
as much information a possible.
u0m3, brb.
Sonar_Guy, it's a common error according to google
not your exact message, there is no bug for it yet.
yeah, there is, i didn't type it verbatim
sorry
i appended the model portion
Kernel panic - not syncing: Out of memory and no killable
processes
Hello
try appending this to your kernel boot line acpi=off
yeah, i told my friend to try that
we'll see in a few hours
he is still at work
that seems to be a common issue.
i was wondering if you knew for sure anything else
shutdown button only make my box halted ,but not poweroff
,any ideas ?
not yet still looking
i am a using a fedora box as a router... how do i forward all
the traffic from a specific port to a specific ip?
you know if this is an nforce4 chipset or not?
i know it's several years old, so i wouldn't think so?
have him try the acpi=off that may help.
you may get a better response in #iptables
thanks!
np
thanks Sonar_Guy that's what i emailed him earlier
so we will see
ok
-j DNAT --to-destination ip
lol and out of the blue comes kanarip!! hehe
you da man! thanks a lot
kanarip rocks "Porn Star Hard" lol
anyone customized ls_colors on XFCE Terminal ??
Is there an XFCE channel ?
Hi! i need to install KDE on my new FC7
my iso seems to be problematic while installing kde
what should i give with yum to install kde
read the man yum ?
yum groupinstall 'KDE (K Desktop Environment)' then as Anvil
said man yum.
uyum groupinstall 'KDE (K Desktop Environment)' then as Anvil
said man yum./u
smart package manager
is the best
hosting one
allows you to see exacly wich package to install +
dependencies
ConnectingPPL, i am very happy with yum in F7
me 2
but i like the other one more
:P
i am using suse at the moment
well plus one fc6 and one mandriva
i am a redhat/centos/fedora house
i just install centOS server hosting to
make some tests
i am learning
i'm just a curious noob
bout time you got to work you slacker! hehe
i have been here
lol
for 25 minutes anyway
Only one more day of work for me. hehe
Then I become a true banker.
oooh.
today is friday for me
i have to go help my mom setup tear down this weekend at the
flea market
ah ok, yeah tomorrow is my final working day, then I be come
unemployed.
or should I say retired.
Say unemployed, retired sounds so useless
are the updates broken? Error: Missing Dependency: mkinitrd =
6.0.9-7.1 is needed by package kernel
Sonar_Guy, yeah we know how long you will stay retired
lol
Just till I get bored right?
something like that
howdy all, can anyone point me to a solution to getting fc7
running under virtual pc 2007?
Anyone know where I am supposed to customise ls_colors ?
anyone ?
~/.bash_profile ?
areee wah
that would be my guess too, except I imagine that the first
thing .bash_profile would do is to call the generics in /etc
(bashrc, profile, etc) in which case they set the ls_colors, so I
need to the modify (over-write) those values
so, then I guess I make a local ls_colors, and re-source ?
Hi all
desktop effects .. does that mean that fedora 7 comes with
xgl?
no. comes with compiz though
and aiglx
where it says "workspaces on a cube:
what does that mean?
man.. try it.. or images.google for "compiz cube"
Anyone know what happend to the portmap package in FC7? What
replaced it?
how do I try it?
HP WLAN 54g W450
that's my wireless card
can i get it working without ndiswrapper?
ctrl+alt and left mouse button, and drag it
wow, its really slow on this system
ati 9200
Ok , so has rpcbind totally replaced portmap in FC7?
do most people use yum or apt?
fedora users yum..
I find Yum slower but better.
Very few people use apt-rpm with Fedora.
NZheretic - yes
http://www.fedoraforum.org/forum/showthread.php?t=157610&highlight=rpcbind
Ok, I will probably have to manually set it up for LTSP.
interesting
I'd have to do a strings on rpcbind - I'll bet there's portmap
code in there
is it just me, or is mkinitrd holding up a kernel
upgrade?
NZheretic - strings /sbin/rpcbind | grep portmap
It is.
kk
guys, what a lot of mutex locks show up as iowait?
Yes rpcbind does the same job, in FC6 both worked in parallel. I
will have to file a bugzilla entry for the ltspadmin package to get
it updated.
After spending an afternoon with FC7, IMHO it was pushed out the
door a month too soon.
so.. what's up with the updatez?
I had some major issues with Gnome, switched to XFCE (was
planning to anyway)
but otherwise I find F7 to be pretty sweet
I have had to pull kernel and mkinitrd packages from koji (
http://koji.fedoraproject.org/koji/
) to deal with kernel errors.
If the Fedora team want regular timely releases then they should
consider forking from rawhide at least two months before
release.
hehe
so did i
you said forking !
That won't happen when attempting to placate users clamoring for
the latest FF/OOo/TB/Gnome/KDE/etc
Those packages don't adhere to the same release cycle.
Inconsiderate bastards, all.
(or attempting to write stability, not bleeding-edge)
good morning all
why every time that I make "yum update", one connection to
209.132.176.220 is open ?
OrgName: Red Hat, Inc.
nslookup 209.132.176.220
Ok, maybe it is time for Fedora to consider parallel
deployment. Stable packages in the default location and unstable
bleeding edge deployed under /opt/${project}/
What will that accomplish?
I dunno. I think Fedora does a good job of giving users what
they ask for.. (not necessarily what they want)
Anyone know what the gui for tor is called? It's on the tip of
my tongue but I can't remember it...
but others also like 193.28.235.40 and 130.206.1.5 ... I
think that one unique repository connection was enough, not ? ...
sounds tracing connection ...
If I had to make a wild guess, I'd say the initial was to the
mirrorlist, and the rest are mirrors. :P
Vidalia, that's what I was after...
oh ok
Hrm. Smells like a trademark violation.
"trademark violation" ?
Development could then continue in parallel, with users
having the option at GDM login to default to stable or bleading
edge ( by setting PATHs and HOME ).
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Vidalia_onion
ok
why the nick change?
evil_steve, :P
evil_steve, you saw the new updated f7 kernel ? that kernel also
didn't helped in getting iwl3945 driver working for me. i just
filed a bug report
ah, that would be the one that I just got a mail
about
I did not like F7, first time that RedHat release one version
so full problems and bugs. Bad guidelines ?
RedHat did not release F7
pm me your email
host adress and I'll send you the instructions from the
gnome NM team in getting it working
evil_steve, via iwl3945 ?
ys
cool
they've found the problem and requested an updated package
without response
so it's the bug with NM ?
Blinny, who makes ?
FedoraProject
ok
i hope the upstream fix finds its way to f7 asap
always think that FedoraProject .. one section companie
RedHat
I'm using it and have 0 problems
maybe it's just you
Long ago, yes. Not now.
sent
its not .. its a community driven entity .. sponsored by red hat
.. but it is _not_ red hat
no, it's the way the iwl drivers does it's scanning
aroo, no, many are getting problems
not stable like Fc6, in my opinion
then use 6
you know, fc6 was not without problems either
when it was released there was a problem that kept non-GPLed
modules from being loaded by the kernel IIRC
anyone now an option to make "dd" interactive
Lankke, are you asking front-end ?
no... i just want some running stats as i format my hard
drive
oeh
at the moment i can't tell how much progress has been
made
ok
Lankke, you can send it a usr signal, or, better, use
dd_rescue instead.
you can watch vmstat 1
vmstat 1?
i've never heard of it
try
im using the rescue prompt with the installation cd
you can also try this;
$ dd if=/dev/zero of=/dev/null count=10MB & pid=$!
$ kill -s INFO $pid; wait $pid
everytime you give the "kill -s
ok cool... i'll give it a go
thanks
it will give you an update
note that that example is directly from the info page for
dd
Sonar_Guy, you there?
he tried acpi=off, same problem
kernel panic
FC6 had its teething problems at the start, FC7 however seems
to more than FC6 release.
thanks wolsni... i did check the info page out.. however i
still find it difficult to find the right information
I'm by no means an amatuer but some of these man pages are
really confusing
It's working now though... great
Which ones?
kiwi???
is kflickr the best or is there better?
almost all of them. I have done pretty well configuring linux host for both my
laptop and desktop but sometimes the instructions are a bit too
much
Arfdee - rephrase your question please
for flickr and linux
heh
Aerfdee, what is your question ??
what is the best flickr program for linux?
what do you need a program for, flickr is web based ?
PinTail_b, they have many upload apps
yep, BUT you can also upload via your browser
why bother with a seperate app
PinTail_b, it's obvious you are not familiar with one,
otherwise you wouldn't have asked
i believe there's a digikam plugin for flickr
so thanks anyway
PinTail_b, i dunno, because i don't want to individually upload
EACH FILE like the web interface requires?
moving on
wolsni, what does that do?
a good resource for finding applications is www.gnomefiles.org
(assumming you use gnome)
dunno, i imagine it lets you upload pictures from
digikam
Ah, OK.
I agree that's a bit lame
there are a couple of flickr upload apps for fedora
just do a "yum search flikr"
s/flikr/flickr/
hello?
hi friends
please help
hp ze4400
well, hello, come on in, the water's fine
after upgrade to f7
Kernel panic - not syncing: Out of memory and no killable
processes
dejavu
evil_steve, that updated network manager too doesn't work.
http://rafb.net/p/1MIIrh41.html
evil_steve, ?
heh
'get a better card'
do you have a gnome bugzilla account?
are their specific packages for ati drivers under
fedora?
evil_steve, no.
do they apply to series like radeon, or could i find packages
for my specific card?
evil_steve, why dejavu?
meta4ical553 - there are two versions: fglrx (closed source) and
the XOrg version
is the bugzilla for fedora www.fedora.info?
fglrx is not available for Fedora 7 yet
is this the main one? http://www.fedora.info/bugzilla/
it is if you use livna's repository.
i want to report one for main fedora, as in, after upgrade to
f7 it doesn't boot
thanks ivazquez
how can i avoid the "error missing dependency" when i try to
update yum ? is there a way i can get it to install all the needed
depedencies ?
can you please help me(actually for my friend's laptop)
so their's nothing made from the official ati drivers?
Missing Dependency: mkinitrd = 6.0.9-7.1 is needed by package
kernel
not yet, as far as I know
BuRneR`, if you use pup, you can just uncheck the kernel package
and update everything else, then wait for them to issue a
non-broken update
something else
ivazquez, he has an hp ze4400
ok thank you
i installed the new kernel a few minutes ago
BuRneR`, that's what i did you're welcome
I'm essentially asking if the official drivers outperform
these free drivers you're talking about?
is the problem i686 only?
can you email me the entire log output and I'll update the
bug
and on boot after upgrade from f4 to f7, gets Kernel panic - not
syncing: Out of memory and no killable processes
wolsni, might be
near udev
yes, they do
I'd really like to be able to run a efw 3d games, nothing too
demanding
along with kernel info, iwl version, etc
evil_steve, who are you speaking to?
but they are not available yet for F7
hm
is showing people about the livna repo not allowed in here?
heh
there are other people having issues, we share the load and
help everyone.
I have a sapphire radeon x1550 and was told in #linux that
only the official drivers would be able to run 3d games
well
They basically said using anything else would get me 10fps
it's allowed
ok
evil_steve, i was just asking if you were asking me that
question
back
I can't imagine that it would be so slow, but the fglrx drivers
are much better, even if they are closed.. In fact I can't get the
'free' drivers to load on my X1300
hmm just need to find out if livna has the drivers yet
heh
wait I'm confused, i thought we were talkign about the free
drivers vs atis official drivers in terms of performance?
spikeb - are you implying that fglrx is available in livna
?
oh are you saying the "Free" drivers as in atis official
drivers wouldn't load?
fglrx is in livna testing but its not for the current kernel
(the one that released yesterday) and it still doesn't work with
the current xorg
PinTail_b, they usually provide it.
meta4ical553, the driver's not quite ready, heh
I know, but it is not yet available
But fglrx is borken on F7's Xorg.
ahh ok
ATI has not fixed it yet.
course not.
i may try the downgrading of the xorg server work around
meta4ical553, yes, the closed drivers will provide much better
performance
no 'free' is the XOrg version, fglrx is the closed source
(non-'free')
ATI is a royal pain, and AMD's not done much to improve that
situation.
agreed, I won't buy another ATI card, ever. nVidia has won
that battle
unfortunately i don't get a choice in the laptops/desktops
given to me at work
did you say your iwl3945 works A-OK with networkmanager, or
do you do it manually?
as soon as intel's onboard stuff can play a couple games that i
like at reasonable framerate/graphics ratio, im not buying another
video card, period.
evil_steve, works great with networkManager
hrm
interestingk
Well, nVidia's chipsets are showing up on a lot of MOBOs and
they come with pretty good graphics
but I'm just using WEP at home and haven't tried connecting
to any WPA or public networks
can you do me a favour, can you pm me the results of "rpm -q
NetworkManager ; rpm -qa | grep iwl"
nvidia and flash are teh last two remenants of proprietary
software on my systems. can't wait to be rid of them
I'm trying to get as much information as possible for the
networkmanager team to get this fixed
NetworkManager-0.6.5-3.fc7
iwlwifi-firmware-2.14.3-2
also the result of lspci | grep 3945
evil_steve, what isn't working for you?
ta
it crashes
http://bugzilla.gnome.org/show_bug.cgi?id=435036
evil_steve, kernel-2.6.21-1.3228.fc7
oh207, f7 released a new kernel?
bitchkat, is that off atrpms or what?
i had some problems the other day where iwl3945 was spewing
the same crap out to the console continuously. It was sucking up so
much CPU that my mouse would lag by 30 seconds or so
Anyone know why Fedora switched from xchat to xchat-gnome as
the default IRC client?
Arfdee, no there was a crapload of updates from the fedora
repos last night -- kernel, openoffice, evolution
it did?
my install didnt have an IRC client installed heh
oic
chmac, no
chmac, i have both installed but don't really like the UI of
xchat-gnome
Yeah, I'm just discovering that xchat-gnome is a little over
simplified
But I guess that probably makes a better default for the average
user
isn't there some irq option you can pass to kernel on boot that
deals with locks caused by irq issues?
chmac, i mean, no, it's not. you don't need xchat-gnome
after upgrade from f4 to f7, gets Kernel panic - not syncing:
Out of memory
and no killable processes
pidgin not good enough ?
near udev loading
You use pidgin for IRC? I know it can do it, but it is any
good?
you went from F4 to F7?
wow
It works.
no it isn't good at it at all
heh
I am using it now
works fine
i didn't, my friend in the third world did
that's the problem we are having on boot
evil_steve, i have noticed that when I'm using wireless on F7
(doesn't matter if its iwl3945 or ipw3945) that the system hangs
when trying to shutdown. I have to unplug and remove the
battery
adding channels is much easier than any other IRC client I have
used
chmac, do you have any ideas?
PinTail_b / ivazquez: Can either of you send me a screenshot?
I'm curious to know what it looks like (and too lazy to try
it!)
err
ivazquez, do you have any ideas?
wow
lol, I was going to say, think you've got the wrong
person!
I'll dump a URL in a second
how come the init command doesn't exist?
You're probably not root correctly. Do 'su -'
Umm, what's the name of the screenshotstool ?
whats the difference between su and su -?
screenshot stool
screenshots tool
the '-' brings in the environment variables. 'man su' will
help you on this
the - gives you a complete environment
quik_, su - is more like logging in as root (runs roots
.profile)
"su -" gets you root's environment as well as
permissions
If only I had four answers to all my questions here (:
what's the screenshot tool called ?
ah right
I use 'gnome-screenshot'
there's more than one
http://img175.imageshack.us/my.php?image=screenshotfedorajp7.png
PinTail_b, i prefer ksnapshot over the default one because it
has more options like taking a snapshot of a window
ivazquez, Sweet, thanks
hi, if I do the live cd install, I can still get everything
later...right? I mean versus doing a full internet
installation
you always can install more later
ati-fglrx-config-display says no command found
have I missed something in the install process?
Even an Internet install doesn't have everything.
is there a quick way to find the config for the stock 2.6.20
kernel in fc6?
/usr/sbin/fglrx-config-display
/boot/config*
cat /boot/config-2.6.20-....
bitchkat, can you give me the url to the web directory of the
updates?
so i can give the url to someone? like the kernel and the
kernel-devel one
Arfdee, just run "yum update"
if it doesn't exist something is missing, correct?
bitchkat, uhhh
Of what?
or "yum install yum-utils; yumdownloader --url kernel"
bitchkat, my internet is probably slower than dialup, and the
person getting this is at work and that's the only place they can
get it at a decent speed
iirc , the command is provided by kmod-fglrx package
doh. thanks
http://download.fedora.redhat.com/pub/fedora/linux/core/7/i386/os/Fedora/
does not work
fedora 7 uses a different tree
i need more coffee. i was installing the srpm and make
oldconfig. hahaha
Arfdee, http://mirrors.fedoraproject.org/publiclist/Fedora/7/
Arfdee, thanks!
'nothing to do' when I yum install kmod-fglrx
F7?
ure using Fedora 7 ?
Arfdee, then look in /etc/yum.repos.d/fedora-updates.repos for
the mirrorlist
Yes
I just grabbed it tonight actually
fglrx doesn't work with F7.
Arfdee, and its entirely possible that the updates have not
propagated to all the mirrors
bitchkat, thanks for nothing
Expect a fix whenever ATI feels like it.
ivazquez, Pidgin looks pretty nice for IRC
bitchkat, a lot of those files use variables
thanks spikeb
Arfdee, you bet
couldnt you roll the kernel back in f7 to get it
working?
I'll have to check it out
It is.
no fglrx package for F7 yet .. need to wait for ATI to
release their new driver .. F7's Xorg is "too new" for the
driver
err. roll xorg back a version then?
Arfdee, replace $releasever with 7 and $basearch with i386 if
thats what you are running
thankfully, ati releases a new driver every month, so it's
not too long of a wait
assumming they actually fix the problem
(which is rather rare)
Fascists
Arfdee, and I have no idea what mirror happened to be selected
last night when I ran yum update
i am just trying to get a link to the new rpm for kernel and
kernel-devel
look in the yum log
hi.. anyone have any experience with DPT raid V cards (adaptec
3400s)
PinTail_b, the yum log doesn't list where it installed/updated
rpms from
you already were told about yumdownloader --url
JohnMahowald, you were already told about my Bandwidth host and the fact
that this is for someone else
Sorry, my bad, I am sure I have seen it logged at some point
though
im trying to load these drivers to get these raid array online
but i keep getting an error about missing
libstdc++-libc6.1-1.so.2.. Any pointers would be greatfully
accepted.
how about browse a mirror manually?
JohnMahowald, how about that's what i've tried to do?
when its released.. will it be much better performance?
yum-utils is a very small package fwiw
its the same as its always been. but i guess your google is
broken
greenfish, what is "it?"
what's the problem you're having finding it?
justfuckinggoogleit.com
JohnMahowald, he doesn't want to replace $releasever with 7
and $basearch with i386 (or appropriate). He wants someone to give
him a URL with them already substituted
snarkster, you need one of the compat-libstdc++ packages
installed
bitchkat, or
as i said not 5 minutes ago
when i PASTED the url that that produces, it says not found
only ATi can answer that .. its their driver ..
plus 2 MB or so repodata
Arfdee, what url?
you're welcome to scroll up
*hint* f7 doesnt have core anymore
spikeb oh allright duh.. thank you.
snarkster, you're welcome
greenfish, *hint* nothing to do with what i did
http://mirrors.fedoraproject.org/mirrorlist?repo=updates-released-f7&arch=i386
fuck you. /ignore
If it was an upgrade to F7 you do have to be sure the old
repositories are disabled.
Arfdee, i doubt thats the URL you actually tried
bitchkat, have faith, my son
mh can someone paste the output of cat /etc/rpm/platform
&& rpm --showrc | egrep 'optflags(.*):' ... i think i've
messed up my configuration
Arbiter, athlon-redhat-linux
-O2 -g -march=athlon
mh
thanks
I'm ia32e-redhat and -O2 -g
need to know the standard profile used by i386
buildsystem
Shalom everyone ! I want to buy a PCI serial card. Is there
anything I can check to make sure Its compatible with Linux
?
in order to build 100% i386 fc7 compatible rpm packages
If its compatible with DOS, does it mean It will be with
Linux too ?
Arfdee, i'm probably too old and don't have the correct
genitals to be your son
yay! i got it
thanks sir
install mock, use it and build in a chroot
yay, thanks
http://fedoraproject.org/wiki/HCL
bummer. I only managed a ~5hr uptime on the new 3228 kernel
before freezing a minute ago. still need the nohz=off boot
option.
i want to build updated kde packages (for 3.5.7) and publish
them in a 3rd party repo... nobody is going to upload them in
fedora-updates I see
altought fedora seems a gnome-centric distro :P
you are aware of http://fedoraproject.org/wiki/SIGs/KDE
?
yup
time for work
but i'm not a contributor
but you can be
does it seem strange to anyone else that the stock fc6 2.6.20
kernel is cmpiled without Full NAT turned on?
http://fedoraproject.org/wiki/Join
ooooh. no. whoa. nice new iptables targets with that one
still doesnt work
im guessing i have to make a link
hey, anyone know that kernel option in case of irq problems?
noirq or something
sweet, gnash with youtube support is out
spikeb, that's a gnome app?
Arfdee, it's a browser plugin for flash, has a gtk standalone
player and i believe a qt standalone player as well
what is the name of that room thermometer thingy that can
connect to the pc for alerts/monitoring of room temp? any1
know?
oh207, an alternative to flash player
what's the point?
Arfdee, free software flash playing.
is that the only diff?
Arfdee, "only" )
well hopefully it'll run better too heh
Arfdee, how about 64 bit support?
the closed flash is not available for ppc either
ah ok
oic
Arfdee, and even that was not the case its possible to ship
it with fedora.
oh right
Arfdee, and its free software that can be properly supported
with should be more than enough reason )
Is there a good virtual machine program for fedora ?
heck yeah che
phiras, virt-manager
sure. xen is almost built in now. and vmware server works
terrific
phiras, its a frontend to xen and qemu/kvm
personally, i think vmware-server is a little easier to
manage. but xen is teh new hawtness
phiras, makes it pretty easy to setup vms with only free
software involved
phiras, with qemu you can even emulate other architectures
kvm is teh newer hotness
phiras, like having a 64bit os virtualized on a 32bit
machine
phiras, other arches are supported aswell of course.
I have xen installed on my machine
Is it good ?
phiras, boot the xen kernel run virt-manager and off you
go
yeah. it doesnt really work in my environment though. i need
live migrations more than anything else
virt-manager is the xen-GUI ?
phiras, if your hardware supports virtualisation you can even
virtualize operating systems with xen that do not support xen at
all
phiras, xen and qemu/kvm yes
ok
phiras, though you can also handle it with shell only.
phiras, man xm
ok
where can I find the 'gemu' ?
phiras, yum install qemu
i have a quick question
No Match for argument: gemu
my friend ran yum update on f7 and it gives header
errors
s/g/q
qemu
can he do the equivalent of yum update --download only?
hello. when I type "at -t 200706141615" I obtain "at: invalid
option: -- t" followed by usage information which indicates that -t
is allowed (as does the manpage). is this a bug in fedora ?
caroch, lets check if theres a bug in the manpage or if you
interpret it wrongly
I am referring to "at [-V] [-q queue] [-f file] [-mldbv] -t
time_arg"
hey everyone
i have a question
well, the man page looks pretty unambiguous on that one
when i did a fresh reinstall of fedora last night, everything
was going great until after i put in my logon information in, and
now just freezes there everytime
wolsni, was that in reference to me?
f7 or fc6, and what version of at
greenfish, f7, at-3.1.10-11.fc7
no
http://rafb.net/p/XnAjiV95.html
whats wrong? :/
Shankysv87 - Are you booting into a graphical environment like
gnome ?
im fc6 with 3.1.8, can anyone on f7 confirm
yes
wb ferrum
hallo
header errors?
greenfish, i am on rawhide. confirmed.
yum clean metadata
wb ferrum ?
should be filed as a bug then
Shankysv87, try logging in from console (Ctrl-Alt-F1) and run
"killall esd"
what's that ?
PinTail_b, "welcome back"
ok, I will file it
JohnMahowald, thanks
Ah
caroch, thanks.
I assume you mean metadata errors.
sorry, it said
file context error
Darkon ok
its fixed upstream but the version in rawhide still has the
buggy cut manpage
that or use XFCE, it doesn't suffer from that issue
cut [OPTION]... [DATEI]...
implies everything is optional
XFCE?
yep
what is that?
Like Gnome, or KDE except not as much bloat
It's a desktop environment that's designed to be
lightweight.
a rockin' desktop enviornment, like gnome's little brother these
days.
Shanky... - You using rhgb ?
speaking of rhgb, any way to change anything about it?
it's open source
of course
what do you mean ?
sorry i might have missed the answer, but what is that grub
option?
pci=noirq ?
you mean configure
JohnMahowald, i deserved that answer i suppose
PinTail_b, yeah
if you mean is it themeable, no. you can replace a couple
images I believe.
ahh
oh and translate it
bout the only thing i wanted to do was replace the clearlooks
progressbar with a bluecurve one heh
PinTail_b, what is rhgb?
RedHat Graphical Boot
yes
is it going to be replaced?
that would be rgb
no, why would it be replaced?
surely you mean Red Hat Graphical Boot?
dwmw2, rhgb.
really hairy gorilla butt
_
ferrum, because it's not needed, and can't do half the things
usplash/splashy can.
I've never used it; I always preferred text.
i can get past the bootloader, i get to the point were i can
log in.. but when i do put in my information, it freezes up and
goes to a permanent state where my screen goes to sleep and
keyboard is unresponsive
Feel free to adapt their splashy package for Fedora and submit
it for review.
that'd be great. usplash also looks nice.
not really necessary for our intended audience, however..
i think i'm actually going to try another thing where i build
my own system. LFS
later
have fun, we'll see in 3 weeks when you give up after missing
that one key step, but not realising it until to late
s/to/too
heh LFS is fun
sure, I've done it myself
but, it can be pretty damn frustrating
yes it can
particularly, as I said, if yo happen to skip something
important without noticing
heh
I have xenman and I want to boot a windows on my Vmachine ,
how ?
PinTail_b, sounds like the pain of experience.
hey all...just enabled my desktop effects after not using
them for a while...I have no window borders now. I haven't done
anything with any of these packages. Is this common for this to
happen? I know that it did work before just fine.
I have one successfull LFS distro, after four attempts
is it possible to do something like yum update
--downloadonly?
man yum
what are you trying to accomplish?
ferrum, have YOU manned yum?
you have hardware virt?
because i have, and i don't see that there, so i was
wondering if there's another way
what is this !
JohnMahowald, my friend is getting header and rpm errors
while at work, and that's the only fast internet connection within
a few hundred miles so he just wanted to get the rpms and i could
diagnose when he returned
dammit ndiswrapper, stop dying on me
http://wiki.xensource.com/xenwiki/XenFaq
have them record the exact yum output
bbl
also, http://fedoraproject.org/wiki/Tools/Xen
mkinitrd = 6.0.9-7.1 is needed by package kernel" has been
widely discussed. Can someone point me to a solution?
Xen can't run windows !!!
Xen can run windows. I forgot what's required, though.
google
the wiki
hosting page I linked to describes the hardware
required
exclude the kernel from updates.
yum update --exclude=kernel*
jimw, solution is to wait for mkinitrd 6.0.9-7.1 to find its way
to the mirrors.
\*
Anvil, ?
--exclude=kernel\*
not necessary. What I gave works.
what you gave could fail on some system. Depending of the
content of the local directory.
(the likelihood of it not working is rather slim, but I see
your point )
unspecializing special chars to give them to programs is a
good habit to get.
its good practice to use \*, some time it will fail, with
uncertain outcome
jimw, yum --enable updates-testing update mkinitrd ; yum
update
kind of odd that stuff is hitting updates with deps still in
updates-testing
:s;odd;crappy
odd is less likely to insult fallible humans
anybody getting this error when they try and update with yum
in FC7?? : Error: Missing Dependency: mkinitrd = 6.0.9-7.1 is
needed by package kernel
...oh for goodness sake. If it isn't one thing, then it is
another. Right... anyone good with named/BIND?
Goodness.
fingaz, yum update --exclude=kernel\*
Yes. You can yum update --exclude=kernel\*
What's your question?
Skiriki - I know it pretty well
I'm currently trying to figure out where I'm doing wrong; my
secondary name server tells me domain/IN: refresh:
non-authoritative answer from master
And I know that I screwed up earlier -- when I assumed that I could
happily just drag the named.conf of my old server to the new one
along with domain infos and have it magically working...
You've lost me there, but, explain your problem
PinTail_b -- mind if I PM you so I won't spam the whole channel
with stuff..?
has anyone use pam_ldap to authenticate to an ldap server? I
just want pam to authenticate the user, create a home directory if
it doesn't exist and give them a uid and gid. I don't want to use
nss as that means changes to my server which I am no willing to do.
i'm sure pam should be able to create a uid and gid on the fly so
that's all i'm looking for
the channel might want to learn
So the real issue is that you upgraded your server, and now
your unchanged zones don't propagate to your secondary?
Yes; plus, I think that the problem is that somehow that
earlier screw-up allowed the domains to expire
somehow..?
Well, when you stop guessing, and start debugging, I might be
able to help
Unfortunately, I have to go
bye
Ah, see you
It doesn't look like the current postfix package has mysql
support. Is there a postfix-mysql package, I can't find
one
Reset the serial and expire values. I've used a format of
YYYYMMDD{REVISION} for serial that has worked well
For example, 2007061401
what kind of support?
support for mysql as a backend
I did it for my main domain, and I'm still not getting it
updated.
Wait -- I did it for the serial. Hmm.
Did you 'service named restart' -- and confirm that you changed
both serial and expire (Set expire to 3600000)
Did you change your zone files _at all_ ?
Does Linux (FC7) Support the 8 series Nvidia Cards?
I'm setting serial to 2007061402 and expire is that already.
And I ported the zone files 'as is' from the old
server.
I didn't know it could, you have a link describing this
feature?
postfix can use mysql as a backend database for holding of
things like virtual domains etc etc etc.
its mentioned on postfix's site
And when I do 'tail -100 /var/log/messages' I do not see any
message about it having loaded the file.
Can you rafb.net/paste your SOA section ?
Moment.
That usually means you have a formatting issue.
http://rafb.net/p/sr14BT43.html
Want me to paste my named.conf too?
bummer. the dbus-python in updates-testing breaks Democracy
Player again. had to revert.
Can you paste the named.conf from the master and the slave?
to rafb.net/paste please
Sure. I'll do master-slave order.
Bet.
http://rafb.net/p/mdIo1S75.html
If you need a sample of log whines, I can post that too...
whats a good calender program?
And this is only for this one domain, or for all
domains?
All.
Is SLI supported in FC7
ilmatar.net is the main domain, FYI. It is registered in a
different place than other .org and .net domains. .fi domains still
seem to work, but mostly because FICORA hasn't caught up
yet.
When you restart the nameserver, you say it doesn't say
anything about loading the zones on the master?
Nope. Only about localhost.
Want me to paste..?
What did you upgrade from/to, and where are your zone files
located?
Domain files are in /var/named/chroot/var/named/ and I moved
from FC4 to F7.
IE, confirm that they're /var/named
(And the files were under same dir in FC4 as well.)
Are there symbolic links in /var/named/* to
/var/named/chroot/var/named/ ?
Hmmm! Very good question. I have to check!
There are for localdomain etc, but not for my domains.
Put them in for your domains and restart named
...doh.
Including the .arpa if you authoritatively provide reverse as
well
No; reverse, alas, isn't mine to control.
Alas!
...
I tested with my main domain, no worky. Found a typo or
something from the confs?
Confirm that the zones are loading when you start named
http://rafb.net/p/2D1K4c54.html
Ok now it's weird.
paste ls -al /var/named and /var/named/chroot/var/named
is it possible to make a live USB stick of fedora 7?
yes
http://rafb.net/p/9o0TgP81.html
yeah
2gb usb stick would be good
Fix your permissions in /var/named/chroot/var/named
:s;permissions;ownership
should be root:named
Ahah! Let's see...
anyone know whats up with beryl and the desktop selectors on
the menu bar? i only have one desktop because it shows four of
those spaces for each 1 desktop i have so if i have four i have
sixteen of those things lined up across my menu bar. anyone know
about this?
Woah. You've got motogp.fi ? Awesome.
Have you restarted X since turning on desktop effects?
It gets by with 'faking' 1 desktop into 4 -- that's how it does
the cool cube effect
Still getting the same result, Blinny.
ohh
I don't think that's the problem though, or some of them
would work
Yeah.
i c
nice, no i havent rebooted yet, not finished configuring and
setting everything up in this new install.
Let's try something. Put a random 'FUNFUNFUN' in named.conf
and see if it gives you a syntax error when restarting
lol
After enabling desktop effects you need to restart
Xwindows
gotcha, will do that.
Okeydoke.
Because something is definitely not kosher.
Hi there
Fascinating.
If the FUNFUNFUN doesn't make a syntax error, check your
/etc/sysconfig/named and see if there is a '-c
someotherconfigfile.conf' in there
I didn't get an error.
I am new with Fedora 7 and I would like to know how to
install FlashPlayer and how to log as root?
Check what named_conf is in /etc/init.d/named after that
/etc/sysconfig/named check
:'(
Hmmm ... /etc/sysconfig/named doesn't seem to have any extra
confs.
Ok
so,anyone?
I haven't used F7 yet, however fedorafaq.org or fedorasolved.org
might help.
fedorafaq.org speaks to flash in FC6
ok thanks
how to log as root?
do you know?
BadRobot, http://fedorasolved.org/post-install-solutions/root/
For some reason, named is not reading your named.conf -- I
would suggest 'updatedb && locate named |grep conf' -- or,
as I said earlier, looking in /etc/init.d/named for named_conf
variable, though it's probably pulling it from /etc/sysconfig/named
unless those variables are empty
:s;unless;if
wait
no
:s;if;unless
Yea, Blinny, sec.
(...sorry about that, a friend of mine busted in and I had to
explain that this is not the best moment to come and explain her
plans about running a B5 campaign, no matter how fun gaming
is...)
Yeah, we didn't need to know that.
Free TMI
http://rafb.net/p/M4JP0588.html
Yeah, that's correct.
i am trying to setup a syslog server, and i need for each
remote host to have their owne file/. anyone know how i should set
this up??
Mind - I do not have /etc/named.caching-nameserver.conf there --
it is /etc/named.caching-nameserver.conf-old as I moved it away
after noticing it hosing up stuff..?
And /etc/sysconfig/named does not have anything like OPTIONS =
'-c someotherfile.conf' ?
No options like that.
what about updatedb && locate named |grep conf
uops, sorry
Massive spammage. Want me to pastebin?
Sure
...wait, whazzat...
take a look at syslog-ng to replace syslog, it's a package
available on fedora. Allows a lot more control over that sort of
thing.
http://rafb.net/p/wb5Jwv78.html
And you're changing /etc/named.conf with the 'funfunfun'
yes?
Yeah.. WAIT... what's THAT...
There is a /var/named/etc/named.conf too
ok - looks like the default postfix rpm does not have mysql
support built in for any fedora release.
...groan.
Yes. I noticed that one.
ok thanks
Is /etc/named.conf linked to /var/named/etc/chroot ?
er, chroot/etc ?
AHAH!
should be /var/named/chroot/etc/named.conf
you'll still have to configure each yourself though, it won't
make up file name based on the source
ok i will look into it
I have to go, but I'll be back in 1/2 hour.
No prob, I think I'm now getting somewhere.
Good. (:
Ta-dah.
Everything works.
Thanks, Blinny.
hi....i got a question?
is there a command word such as search to find a document
Try 'locate filename'
thanks Skiriki
I'm having problems with revisor. I'm attempting to build a
livecd from the dvd. the conf file have been setup to point the
baseurl to the mounted DVD. Went through the dep check and the
status message says "Downloading Packages". It's been that way for
the last 2 hours, yet it's not supposed to get the rpms from the
net. log file just indicates that's it's displaying progress bar.
ideas?
command not found
"command not found?" A: Run the command AS ROOT after
switching users with "su --login" or "su -" in order to get root's
command PATH so the command WILL be found; don't run "su" by
itself. If it's still not found, then either it's not installed in
a standard path location (echo $PATH), is not executable (chmod
a+x), is in your current dir (./runme), or you've spelled it
incorrectly.
I think the DVD is missing at least a couple needed packages
possibly it's stuck on dep resolution because they're
missing
oh. really! hmm. the log file isn't showing anything. I'm at the
revisor site downloading the updated version. I think I should
maybe check the repo pointing to the mounted DVD and the Fedora
updates. what do you think?
how to send ctrl+alt+f1 to xen ??
I seem to recall in fc6 xen you had to bring up the xen console
and then use something like sendkey??
the serial console??
hi, the live cd won't display my video mode, so back to http
install. Do I set the directory to where all the .rpm packages are?
Never done this is fedora
not to .rpm packages are but to something that has repodata/
folder
no, there is a Xen "monitor" console, I seem to recall one
can switch between three xen console screens
wait..
the os/ directory. the one with the repodata dir in it.
I need to scram; thanks for all the help, folks, again.
fedora/releases/7/Fedora/i386/os/repodata/ that look
right?
one level up
fedora/releases/7/Fedora/i386/os/
okay, thanks
please forgive me, I think I might have been thinking of
qemu. sorry. it's the heat and humidity here. :-(
I am using a Compaq DL360 and having trouble with getting
SCSI to be recognized.
its okay .. /me still googling for it
KageSenshi, xm console ? what about that
xen .. i'm trying to send ctrl+alt+fn key to a xen machine
..
xm console i guess is use to connect to a xen console
hei guys how do I add extras to my repo?
BadRobot, explain
extra repo
your question can be taken too many different ways
reposories
BadRobot, uname -r
BadRobot, extra as in additional or extra as in the Extra.repo
BadRobot, and based on your uname -r reply is needed before we
can proceed
the terminal seems like hanging after i execute xm console
XenDomain01 .. ps ax|grep -i xm doesnt show anything ..
Hi :-)
KageSenshi, are you at the console ?
I am here with yet another SE trouble...
KageSenshi, richard told me that alt alt alt ctrl f1 should
do what you want
my smbd is trying to access a mountpoint /repo which is a
seperate partition. and consists of the Fedora DVD and Updates. and
is in the alias section of apache.
i never configured samba to access /repo
how to press that?? alt 3 times , ctrl , then f1
?
alt 3 times then ctrl+f1
got it .. thanx!
np. for more info i say look into #virt@irc.oftc.net
Is it there a way to get my downloads much fast when updatading
packages, because I've 2 M/bits internet connect and the download
seems to be very slow,is it there anyway to get a better
server?
yum install yum-fastestmirror
how can i earase an empty directory ....i am using "touch"
and its not working ...i also tried "rm"
rmdir
rm -R
rmdir
rm --help or man rm
wo!
thanks ...blush
sorry i got FC6 and i love it ..but i am still
learning
thanks
my smbd is trying to access a mountpoint /repo which is a
seperate partition. and consists of the Fedora DVD and Updates. and
is in the alias section of apache. And the SE Linux blocks the
request.
i do not mind my question not being answered... bui i do not
want to be banned from this channel for asking too many
questions... I have asked a lot of them off late...
Have i been banned? can anyone read me?
no
lordloh:
:-)
What a relief :-D
SimplySeth?
setroubleshoot diagnoses denials
i end up going to "man rm" and i do get some
instructions
that is where i know the denial from
eh ?
yep .. man shows you the manual and you press q to get out
but... it does not say nothing about " rmdir" i got -d -f, -i
-r, -R
the denial has no problems... except the log entries... /repo is
not supposed to be for squid and samba.
i presssed CTL Z
to get out
you can just press "q" to get out
hi ferrum
hallo
ctrlz .. but its in freeze mode so if you press fg .. it
might come back to the front
aawww okay
rm -R .. -R = recursive .. it wipes out the directory and
everything in it
brm -R .. -R = recursive .. it wipes out the directory and
everything in it/b
woops
i still dont get it where you got rmdir ....
i only see rm -d
oh welll
I never used rmdir .. so I don't know .. I always use rm
-R
what's the question?
rmdir and rm are different programs.
oh okay!
rmdir?
what you mean ferrum
man rmdir
?
but it works
rmdir removes empty directories
aawww okay
mmmmm
rm -rf "directoryname" removes directories even if they have
stuff inside.
waht about touch?
touch makes a file
man touch
SimplySeth, if the file exists it updates the "Last Accessed"
time.
touch seems to update the files dateand time...
true true true
touch's file creation is a highly useful side effect
quite
I agree...
that's why it's there..
hahah got it ! u all so helpful thanks
(unless you set noatime flag)
so when will fedora be assimilated by the MS borg?
most commands have their own manual
i am taking linux classes
man rmdir ... man rm ... man touch
(which is useful for partitions that hold databases and other
often-read things)
your classes use Fedora?
do you have to be on a 64 bit machine to build 64 bit
rpm's?
I'm surprised. Usually no one gives us any love :3
yes
JohnMahowald, doh
thanks
aawww got it Siimplyseth ...they are just different
commands
in theory you can cross compile with an emulator, but
eww.
hahha...your welcome ferrum
yup yup yup
does anyone know why i would get a "Missing dependency error"
on mkinitrd when i try and update my kernel?
yeah i have virtual machine hosts this is 32 bit i'll just
use one on the 64bit one
Alpha_Cluster, because mkinitrd has not yet been pushed from
updates_testing
.. I ran into that issue today
Everyone has that issue..
then why does the kernel update require it?
It's a bug.
(that it wasn't pushed, I mean)
ferrum, a lab in my school has fedora only too
ok
ferrum, a few professors still care
all of my school's labs are OSX
i guess i can deal with it lol
ferrum, well it's a linux lab, for experimentation, not a
regular PC lab
ferrum, nice school
yes they're very fancy
ferrum, mine has MS+Dell contract
I wish they would take the $ they spent on switching to OSX
and use it to pay some of my tuition though.
lol my schookl has all new iMacs . dualbooting windows and
OSX
ferrum, don't we all
lucky our CS lab uses Gateways with Fedora and Windows
Alpha_Cluster, rich school... to liscenced OSes per
machine
Hello
two*
Hi
lol my school sold its soul to apple i think
jarrett|, hola
Alpha_Cluster, mkinitrd should be pushed tomorrow.
yay !
for now yum update --exclude=kernel\*
sweet
lol that is what i did last night
well kinda i just unchecked kernel cause i didnt want to reboot
lol
i stumbled on a weird problem today with my fedora 7
installation.. worked fine and then after updating gnome won't
start with the message: 'Nautilus can't be used now, due to an
unexpected error from Bonobo when attempting to register the file
manager view server.'
beryl is fun weeee
sorry
is there a way to download the entire xfce and KEDutainment
group with rsync with al dependencies without rsyncing the
Everything?
lordloh, well when you get into deps, you need a dep solver,
so i would say no
i tried yum deplist and the format was not good....
is there a way to output the deplist to file and import
file
lordloh, that's where i guess you'd use a script to reforat
it
lordloh, i guess i can give that a try
anybody knows if i can fix the problem somehow? forgot to ask
that
what deplist command did you use?
jarrett|, i don't use gnome, if it was KDE i coudl help
lordloh, what deplist command did you use?
yum deplist gdm...
I did not try it for xfce.
yumdownloader from yum-utils can resolve deps, but it doesn't
take groups
XFCE may have a lot of applets....
If there is someone here that can upgrade packages, please
upgrade mission-control to 4.23
yumdownloader...
I'll see...
I get lots of bug report for a crash fixed in that version
and fedora 7 didn't upgraded yet
Zdra, check who the maintainer is
also, yum-downloadonly plugin
I'm not fedora user, where can I see that ?
JohnMahowald, he wanted to use rsync though
I saw the yum-download only.... Where does it download to?
.... stupid question.... but still.... ?
fedoraproject.org
lordloh, /var/cache/yum i think
You can't get that kind of control over the downloaded deps
with rsync.
Zdra, I can't find mission-control in the F7 repos at all
o_O
yum seems to get stale when not used oftne
lordloh, yum has a cache area /var/cache/yum
lordloh, in the normal yum process.. yum downloads to the cache
area... then does the rpm transactions from there
the package is telepathy-mission-control I think
Zrda, foolish@guezz.net is the maintainer of
telepathy-mission-control, I'm not sure if that's related.
well there you go
lordloh, the plugin just lets you stop the process after the
download to cache
thanks !
okay... I have a sotware repo for my lan... and I need some
packages not on DVD...there.
lordloh, you can configure yum to use whatever cache location
you prefer
lordloh, man yum.conf
seriously, if i don't use yum for a month or two, it seems to
cease to function properly
hehe he.... sounds like windows....
i've noticed this since FC4
yum clean all
and is happening on an FC6 machine now
hmm,finally woke up
wow.... yumdownloader --resolve is exactly what I
wanted....
lordloh, yum -C deplist gdm | grep provider | awk '{print $2}' |
sort | uniq
just another question... I am a newbie... so please don't
kick me... What are source RPMs used for? to obtain the source code
only? or can YUM auto compile them on the target machine and intall
it?
lordloh, to obtain, and possibly compile the source
yourself
you can build new binary rpms using the rpmbuild command
lordloh, yum cant autocompile them..... but mock can
lordloh, yum doesn't autobuild at this time
example .. rpmbuild --rebuild somepackage.src.rpm
lordloh, mock will take an srpm.. setup the fedora build
environment in a chroot..pull binaries as required..and do the srpm
rebuild
nice... I always stay away from the source it gices me a
fright as I once downloaded the apache source accidently on a
windows machine. and I had a dial-up connection.
So I tried to build apache on Visual C++.
lordloh, haha, ok
I had to compile it more than 10 times and it did not build.
With each compile... The number of errors reduced.
I guess some file required was being generated later.
thanks.... that command you gave works like a piece of cake....
I am bad at regex... so I cannot parse it. :-(
Thanks. :-)
lordloh, there's no regexp in there though
see... I cant even figure that out....
I thought grep was some regex prog...
lordloh, remove the -C
the -C was to use your cache, instead of redownloading the meta
data
works the same.
lordloh, it can do regexp, but i didn't use that
I have created a set of .repo files in my yum.repos.d/
directory. a few files like fedora.repos access only my lan
repository. while fedora-internet.repo accesses the internet. I
have a script that renames fedora.internet.repo to
fedora-internet.oper
mkinitrd just turned up in updates
yay !
and vice versa. So I disable the internet repository whenever I
like.
hello all, anyone know where i can download the new fedora
theme?
i am using ubuntu, but i like fedoras blue theme and icons
better
on one machine here I had this error, and on another the new
kernel installed with the old initrd. zierd donùt you
think?
wierd*
scales11, you'd have to find and dload the appropriate
RPM
I was still wondering... How does YUM manage to know which
file of the yum.repos.d is intended for updates and ehich for the
everything?
scales11, and then unpack it
yeah
lordloh, it doesn't really
oper
lordloh, yum will take the most up to date package
humm, alright i will look. he, you dont know it by chance do
you?
So when I try to run the updater, how coem I am not shown
Everything?
scales11, no, sorry
lordloh, well it only shows the most updated packages that you
don't already have
the updater show packages that are newer than the one
installed on ur system
all repos are treated the same .
nice to know this... :-)
which you need? .. the gtk theme? .. the icons? .. the

CrocoJet, ls -Zd /root
"drwxr-x--- root root root:object_r:user_home_dir_t:s0 /root"
?
An IOException occurred at
scim_bridge_client_imcontext_set_cursor_location ()
what does that mean?
CrocoJet, never mind I hadn't read the whole story in the
first place
ls -Zd /root
drwxr-x--- root root root:object_r:user_home_dir_t:s0 /root
?
CrocoJet, I got it. It's unrelated and looks fine anyhow
CrocoJet, put the remainder of the message on some pastebin
tobi1canobe, do you think that I can setup these internal

have there been any reports of synaptic touchpad issues with
fedora 7 ... i.e. the touchpad becoming unresponsive when
d/l?
other question, I delete /var/log/lastlog
and now getting this message in /var/log/secure: "
lastlog_filetype: Couldn't stat /var/log/lastlog: No such file or
directory" ?
me?
any idea to fix that
hi all
Hi. fresh install F7, getting this error when trying to put the
gpg key for flash: warning: cannot get exclusive lock on
/var/lib/rpm/Packages
anyone ... i've had this issue with opensuse, ubuntu, and
others. the only distro i haven't had this issue with thus far is
debian sid and i don't really want to run sid unless i have to
i'd prefer a more stable environment
simply recreate it? using "touch" maybe?
let me try
CrocoJet, just touch /var/log/lastlog ; restorecon
/var/log/lastlog
ok, thanks
CrocoJet, not sure you need the restorecon. I'm getting paranoid
with selinux contexts
ok
selinux is off here .. no problem
I saw my other computer that file lastlog is not text file
should my usb drive mount automatically when plugged in?
enviouz, fc6 .. work this way
well idk if i need drivers or not
i have ati chipset
can anyone help me to test javascript at firefox, using f7...cpu
usage is always high on several site (ex: http://www.detik.com or http://www.okezone.com)
all usb items should mount automatically, especially pen
drives
when javascript is disable, everything ok
dunno, both site have bad js or bug on ff
thats what i though SBNet|Laptop its actuallully a usb
mp3player but i use it as usb storage
it was ok a few days ago then i went from my pci card to my
onboard for video and now it doesnt seem to work
yeah most lowerend mp3 players double as usb drives and it
should work
enviouz, sounds irq problems
switch back to pci video and see if it works again, if so, you
definately have IRQ issues
i also have to set noapic in the boot loader if that means
anything
what os?
Shalom guys ! Does anybody know if "NetMos 9820 2 port Serial
card (rs-232)" is compatible with Recent linux ? Does the kernel
include a driver for that ? I'd appreciate any input on
that.
fedora 7
i haven't had that problem yet but sounds like and irq
issue
Eliran_Itzhak, "Shalom" ?
wouldnt i get a warning at boot though? i even removed quite
from the boot line to read the output
CrocoJet, Shalom is a hebrew words that stands for "Hello"
and "Peace". Its a standard greeting.
oh ok
you wouldn't get a warning, i had to go to noapic in the last
days of FC6 for a kernel and nidswrapper issue
culture shock
the_hydra, :-)
ahh ok ty
anybody can help me with this ? https://bugzilla.redhat.com/bugzilla/show_bug.cgi?id=244239
i only new i needed the noapic because i got some mp bios bug at
boot
Hi, I got my network working just now. The problem was, that
DHCP could not get an address. It was solved by adding "irqpoll" to
the kernel boot parameters. That also solved my mouse
problems.
boncos that problem is in javascript i get it with any
browser that use jave script
idk exactly how to fix it though
enviouz, so that both site have bad js ?
Anyone about that RS-232 card ?
Eliran_Itzhak, did you make test to see ?
well boncos idk exactly what the prob is i just know it happens
using any browser and visiting any site that uses java
more easy to install fedora and test
its got to be in java script somewhere though
enviouz, ok thanks, are you using f7 too ?
yes
CrocoJet ? I dont have this card atm,
HI
CrocoJet, I;m thinking about buying it, and want to know how
well it works with linux.
weird, that no happen when i access using fc5
what is fc7 so slow downloading
why*
i'm on a 5mb connection and its downloading at 70k
f00bar`, because your not using the torrent
buy interface rs232 ? God !!!
i never noticed it before either boncos but ive only ever use
fc6 briefly and f7
i think bad idea !
f00bar`, use torrent
i'm already 50% through it
old hardware ... bad investment
but
its taking forever
f00bar`, or pick other mirror
after i make changes to /etc/modprobe.conf how can i 'reload'
the changes?
boncos then it will restart
Eliran_Itzhak, but I think that hayes smartmodem work with linux
.. so your rs232 will works also
CrocoJet, I have 3 external modems (RS-232) but only 1 RS-232
port on my computer, thus want to buy this card i was asking about,
which is supposed to ad two more RS232 ports using a PCI card. I
just dont know if this card plays nice with linux.
