i have the tar file
hodges, just point and click, should be in your application
menu
how are you sure they're on i386 ?
What video driver?
don't use tars
that's what it came as
.tar.gz
frozty_sa, gnome?
yup
well don't use them. try with yum first, always
you don't want to install that
fsck, Thanks.... :-D It worked... There was an
1.20.1-84.fc7
i'm using amarok to play music though
frozty_sa, maybe you should try KDE+artsd
don't want to install what?
nvidia originally, i thought that was the problem, but this
is replicated with the nv driver as well (and nvidia kernel module
unlaoded)
the tar.gz
bad idea.
ack. you got me on that one. Good call
i believe it doesn't matter what video driver
how nice do kde and gnome play these days? because at one
stage...no likey....
k
I'm having difficulty with the livna-release-7 rpm in that
apparently the baseurl is not present
Put the stack trace on http://www.rafb.net/paste .
frozty_sa, well they are are mutally exclusive, you can only use
one DE at a time
just trying to get more familiar with linux
Of course it is. It uses a mirror list.
have you used yumex?
nope
if not, install it and start it up
fsck, you mean piruit, right... he'd have to yum yumex
that i know. but i meant in terms of config's and stuff
yum install yumex?
http://rafb.net/p/KiQ6Uw84.html]
http://rafb.net/p/KiQ6Uw84.html
whats the url for reporting bugs in fedora?
frozty_sa, sorry, can't say.... haven't used gnome in
ages
you'll get an alphabetical listing of all available packages
in a point and click type of menu
like my hardware mixing works but not with th mic
yep.
fsck, i think piruit does that too though
Okay, file it against xorg-x11-server-xorg then.
but more correctly, you can only use one DE per x-session you
can nest sessions though...
how would i run it? yumex from a terminal or does it install a
shortcut ont he menu bar?
i cant believe its more clearly prsented on the homepage
http://bugzilla.redhat.com/
a href="http://bugzilla.redhat.com/"http://bugzilla.redhat.com//a
yes, pirut does, but i didn't tell him about pirut .. i told him
about yumex.. i'm trying to help him out
frozty_sa, quite true
thanks
frozty_sa, i would , but i try not to recommend software these
days
thanks ivazquez
frozty_sa, .... unless i'm being paid that is
Hi everyone!!!!!!!!!
chocobanana, hi
can somebody tell me what is the pastebin url?
rafb.net/paste
there's a few
pastebin.com, pastebin.ca
It's actually in itty bitty letters under the Communicate
link.
ivazquez, you took out the link in the subject?
Not I.
ivazquez, okay... might want to put it back in
Not right now. Right now I go find food.
ivazquez, cool
ivazquez, might i suggest some palaue
I have problem, my laptop sometimes gets a temporary 20 sec
freeze
I'm using kyum and receiving "*** Cannot find a valid baseurl
for repo: livna" after installing the livna-release-7.rpm
chocobanana, define freeze
have you recently stuck any cheese or butter in the floppy
drive?
I already checked the logs and the one that seems to point
something is /var/log/messages
mouse cursor moves, everything elses is locked
rpm -q livna-release && rpm -V livna-release
output of /var/log/messages: http://rafb.net/p/aXED5810.html
chocobanana, is it predictable?
totally unpredictable
chocobanana, laptop you say?
indeed
chocobanana, do you have another OS on the machine
Hi there, my OpenGL stopped working.. Is there any
diagnostics I could do to figure out why it stopped
working?
yes, win xp
chocobanana, does it happen there also?
you can "glxinfo" to check for DRI
no, it works normally
DRI?
chocobanana, interesting
direct rendering
chocobanana, what version of fedora?
I would say annoying
chocobanana, i would too
glxinfo | grep 'direct'
so to uninstall something, i could just use "yum uninstall wine"
?
chocobanana, what release?
Fedora 7
remove
man yum
but it also happens with Ubuntu 7.04
says direct rendering: No .. I got that already from glxgears,
which was sllloooowwwwww
ah thanks
haven't tryed other distros, though
hodges, seriously, if you don't want to man yum, use the
GUI
and would like to have F7 here
livna-release-7-2; S.5....T c
/etc/yum.repos.d/livna.repo
when did it stop working? change anything?
chocobanana, hmm, must be a kernel problem... could just be
linux
chocobanana, linux
hosting utilizes hardware more
could be a hardware issue
the man yum is not really a terribly long read and is quite
enlightening
chocobanana, look around in your BIOS, see if there are any
usefful settings there
thats the thing.. I think it happened already some time ago
without me noticing it (not been doing games, etc)
Anyone know how to add dns entries to my local caching named
server?
that's also my guess, but I would like to nail down the
problem
I think it happened after a yum update, best
host guess anyway
k. what card?
perlmonkey2, system-config-named i think
you had a livna.repo before installing. Do : mv
/etc/yum.repos.d/livna.repo.rpmnew
/etc/yum.repos.d/livna.repo
system-config-bind?
it gives the option to enable 32bit data transfer mode, do you
think it might be related to this?
nVidia Corporation NV44 [GeForce 6200 TurboCache(TM)] (rev
a1)
perlmonkey2, sounds right, feel free to rpm -qi it
rex kwon do.
have you got nvidia drivers?
Cool thanks
as in from the nvidia site?
chocobanana, unless you think that will cause you data loss,
experiment with it
or livna?
perlmonkey2, no prob
Now I'm just being greedy, but do you know what I should edit
there?
ok, I will try to change that
rpm -qa | grep nvidia gives me nvidia-x11-drv-1.0.9746-1
perlmonkey2, nope, it's been awhile
from livna, should be anyway
Heh, thanks anyways
anyway, I'm glad that in Fedora we have proper kernel updates
and hopefully the situation will be solved
hang on, checking quickly
perlmonkey2, no prob
Sure!
chocobanana, not sure i'd call them proper...but okay
i386?
errr.. doesnt say.. how can I see that?
proper in the sense that it updates 2.6.x.y and not just
2.6.20.x for example
chocobanana, ah, cool
thanks for the attention
are you using 64bit?
nope, 32
chocobanana, no problem, loved you in star wars (I kid)
lol
k. then it's i386
nvidia-x11-drv.i386 1.0.9746-1
or otherwise known as x86
Should I not also have a kmod-nvidia something
installed??
I did a reinstall of that rpm. that fixed it. I need a long
vacation. thank you very much
Whew, found it and it is a pain. I only have 5 machines using
this DNS, so I'll just cut and paste into their /etc/hosts Much
easier.
i'm thinking that....you could try to yum install
kmod-nvidia
perlmonkey2, much
tried doing that, got some compatibility problem.. hang on, I
will try again
Error: nvidia-x11-drv conflicts with xorg-x11-drv-nvidia
I guess I found the prob.. now then, how do I fix it
remove the one that is currently on, and then install
kmod-nvidia
phoenixz, if you have problem with nvidia from livna just lauch
ldconfig
it work but somes people have problems when updating it
ldconfig may solve (or yum remove then yum install)
as in, remove the nvidia-x11-drv ??
there is also some new acpid connection stuff if you've using a
laptop
if that's the one that's on, yes
yes indeed
and then install both nvidia-x11-drv AND kmod-nvidia?
nope. just kmod-nvidia
it'll pull in all required deps automatically
ok so openoffice isn't showwing up
hodges, still using yum?
aye
not showing up where?
perhaps i'm just not looking int he right place?
rpm -qa | grep -i openoffice
on the menu
okay.. removing and installing.. I'll let you know the
results
k. good luck. and say thanks you don't have an ati
there should be an Office submenu
yeah but openoffice isn't in it
what fsck said will tell you whether you have it
installed
openoffice.org-core-2.2.0-14.8
it looks like its working.. the nvidia-x11-drv is also being
installed, this time with the correct version thanks
alot!
hodges, you need more than the core package i think
there must be more than that
and yeah, thank god I dont have ATI. however, now that AMD
has ATI, I might hope that they will do more in the open source
area.. not??
core is just some support stuff that the rest of oo.o
uses
openoffice is several packages
ok i'll try yumex then
open yumex
scroll down alphabetically
Anyone know when a new kernel will be released? Somebody told
me any day now...
For F7 that is
no problem
when it's released.
i know the pain graphics can be
any day now
lol, I love that answer, it's somewhat stating the obvious,
but I love it...
it's true
Cool, thanks
chmac, you'd have to check fedora-testing
watch updates testing and Dave Jones' blog web
hosting if you want better answers
I imagine.. thanks anyway!
kernelslacker.livejournal.com ?
http://kernelslacker.livejournal.com/
yupp
When you say check fedora-testing, do you mean see if there's
anything in there? Or is there a wiki / mailing list I
should check?
chmac, i actually meant the updates-testing list
fedora*-testing
http://people.redhat.com/davej/kernels/Fedora/fc7/kernel.repo
is there a fix for ATI drivers yet?
Thanks, I think that's a bit too bleeding edge for me
though...
I just want suspend to work, which I'm told will work with the
next kernel
i use all of daves kernels .. no troubles here
nikitis, ATI might be busy opening their drivers
seriously?
pembo13_com, like open sourcing?
so they've claimed
hmm...
wow, smartest idea ever!
who has is holding money for bets on this?
nikitis, this was said by a marketting dude, if i remember
correctly, so take with some salt
Gtk-WARNING (recursed) **: could not load image: Icon
'document-new' not present in theme
hodges, nothing to worry about
oh, marketing
when trying to run yumex
yeah but how do i make it run?
mock, i agree with you there
i just ran "yumex" from terminal (as root)
after "yum install yumex"
i get to go home today and try to get my ati card working
with what i've downloaded
if not, i have an nvidia card on the side i can plan
b
pembo13_com, in that case I have no problem waiting for the
drivers
pembo13_com, does that mean true opengl for ati then?
nikitis, i wouldn't hold my breath, but okay
none of this emulated fglrx crap
Found the RedHat list pages, but I can't find a Fedora
updates-testing list?
Do you have a URL for the list?
nikitis, one can hope, i'll give them my money if they do
it
pembo13_com, yea, same
pembo13_com, nvidia has been great for proprietary imo. they
usually listen to what the customers need out of their
cards.
chmac, looking
But in the end, open source is what everyone would want
ahh that pizza and BBQ wings where goood!!!
chmac, https://www.redhat.com/mailman/listinfo/fedora-test-list
what does that add to the channel?
Great, thanks
ok, trying to get a fedora system online with wireless (no
wired connection) need kernel sources installed and
configured...why does the SRPM require me to patch the source and
install it myself? how do i get the sources installed and usable to
make against?
Fedora and pizza are a good combination
From reading Dave Jones's blog, my suspend issues might not
go away with the next kernel release...
Oh well, the joys of freedom hey!
Meoorf, you want kernel-headers not the source
issit safe for me to make /tmp a symlink to /var/tmp ??
where is a link to rpm for kernel-headers?
he wants kernel-devel .. not source or headers
Meoorf, it's in the repos
yum install kernel-devel
fsck, to compile
host modules, one needs the headers
you can do that when you are online
what wifi card Meoorf
Meoorf, go to the repo and dload manually
should i just go ahead and plug the nvidia in and not even try
to mess with ati?
we got kernel-devel
and doing a make gives some lex.c errors
mock, depends on how much time you have to waste
like we are missing lex headers now
you should be trying to find out what wireless card he has to
provide the proper fedorasolved howto
i ask again .. what wifi card /chipset?
fsck, well he cam asking for the source, not for help
rt2570
meaning if i can try the ati, why not give it a shot and up
my experience points?
mock, more or less
i could use the higher ranking
http://fedoramobile.org/fc-wireless/rt2x00-wireless-lan-chipset/
it's called teaching .. sometimes the student doesn't know what
they are asking for
fsck, fair enough
there was a very positive article in eweek about Fedora
7
fsck, he'd learn more compiling for himself though
look at the howto
always try to avoid compiling source in a package managed
system
love how you gotta use yum for everything
fsck, that much i know
rt2500pci is inside fedora 7 2.6.21 kernel
this shit
he should uses this
good thing i placed a time bomb on him before he left.
fsck, see where your good will went to?
yea.. he's outside int he parking lot of #fedora splattered all
over
good thing i parked in the far lot
yeah, next time i'm taking the front side bus
Do you use ndiswrapper at all?
EvilBob, not sucessfully, no
K
works great! thanks lots
my new laptop has to new of a wireless card... ;^(
EvilBob, aren't you the wifi guru?
hey anyone using ATi Radeon X1550 gfx card here??
the mfg changed the card used, all the specs showed a 3945
Intel, I ended up with a 4965AGN
Thanks guys, catchya
the vesa driver for dis card doesnt work well so i m looking
for fglrx from livna
but i got nothing from yum
what happen??
EvilBob, seems like you should call up the vendor
I get errors from yumex when I attempt to download more than
a few packages...
Error Downloading Packages:
type 'exceptions.ValueError'invalid literal for int() with base 10:
''traceback object at 0xa5b9ab8
http://fedorasolved.org/ati
make sure you follow the REQUIRED bits
i c thx
trying it out
seems like no kmod-fglrx from livna for F7
How do I fix these errors in yum?
until the ATI reelases the latest driver
Error is "type 'exceptions.ValueError'invalid literal for
int() with base 10: ''traceback object at 0xa5b9ab8"
http://forums.fedoraforum.org/showpost.php?s=d6d88e567d1532efc878b98c31d53cc3&p=794362&postcount=2
omg
lordloh, try using the command-line based yum. See if that
works.
"yum install $packagename"
moral of the story, don't buy ati products
Got the same error there too....
yeah I forgot to mention that ATI sucks
lordloh, really? It couldn't possibly have been the same
error.
Okay... let me try again...
and all the drivers so far are only for windows
KageSenshi, rumormill says that they could be open sourcing the
driver
I think u r so rite.. I m too foolish enough....
"you are so right"
That's a known bug with yum when using the DVD as a
repo.
lol
hey
jude
lol
i am in need of a little help with beryl
if they are ... that gonna be very cool .. i dont have to
worry bout getting a new laptop .. (quite hard to find nvidia
laptop @ the place i
'm living in
Fanactism what is your problem with beryl?
it does not work at all
any settings i input do not take effect
my video card is ATI mobility radeon 9000 IGP
not gonna work
the compiz thing works fine
is ther any nfs client for xp
Any work around?
Either rerun createrepo against it or don't use it.
Last time when I did createrepo against it in FC6, I lost all
group information. How do I retain it? There is a createrepo -g
option but where do I get the group file from?
comps.xml
the package signing problem @ everything repo still not fixed
eh? ..
It won't be against packages in Everything, just
updates.
Can I get a groupfile against Everyting from some repo ?
They use the same comps.xml.
there is a comps-f7.xml in the DVD. This seems to be a
language translation table and nothing more... Where do I get the
comps.xml from?
That's the file.
Keep going down.
group list, group id, catagory... I see no information that
could possibley bind package names to these groups...
Is there a solution yet to ATI's problem with F7 ? I know I
should talk to ATI, then again could'nt find an email
host to place my complaint.
http://rafb.net/p/J5pyfQ23.html
is the error from yum...
http://forums.fedoraforum.org/showpost.php?s=d6d88e567d1532efc878b98c31d53cc3&p=794362&postcount=2
have a workaround .. do it at ur own risk though
hi
KageSenshi, Thanks for the reference to the temp solution. My
self I'll wait for the official driver.
createrepo did not work... I still get the same error...
http://rafb.net/p/J5pyfQ23.html
ure trying to install packages from dvd??
DVD is copied to a folder on the harddisk...
and the folder is made available over apache httpd
so it is accessable as http://hostname/repo/fedora/$releasever/DVD/$basearch/os
ok .. now you cd to the dir where
hostname/repo/fedora/$releasever/DVD/$basearch/os is .. run
createrepo -g comps.xml (the comps.xml you can get from the
repodata folder from the DVD)
it should work afterward .. if it doesnt .. try yum clean all
first
hello
is it possible to run f7 as i386 on an intel core2 duo, or do i
need to use the x86_64 version?
Yes and no respectively.
The clean all seems to have done the trick and not to mention
you and icazques :-)
The clean all seems to have done the trick and not to mention you
and ivazquez :-)
ivazquez, any giant down sides/gotchas to doing so?
sorry... Typos :-O
Your apps will only have a total of 4GB virtual memory.
aint core2 duo is 32bit??
Of course, there aren't many that need more...
hrm. this box has 4GB of real memory
What is /dev/mapper0 ?
Some C2Ds are 32, some are 64.
oo
how about virtualizing another f7 instance at 32 bit?
I have two SATA drives and when the intsaller sees them it
shows up as /dev/mapper0
What?
actually, i'm pretty sure the 32-bit version is just called a
Core Duo
does anybody know a good way to have a streaming server? what
i mean is that i have some video files, and i want to have people
able to watch it streaming
Flumotion.
Tjikkun, i think icecast also does video, not sure
thanks, i am trying that atm, but i can't seem to be able to
figure out how to use an existing file as the source
i did manage to stream my webcam, but well.. don't think that
will attract lots of visitors
http://kagesenshi.87.googlepages.com/repomirror.py
any idea for me to improve this semi-cooked repo mirroring script
??
i have external hdd here , the filesystem of the hdd is ntfs
, how to mount it for temporay in fc6 ?
mount it for temporary?
do you mean temporarily mount it?
yep
i just want to copy some data on it from my fc
yum install ntfs-config .. there'll be a ntfs configuration
tool in the system tools menu .. run it
ivazquez, run some kind of VM on top of the x86_64 install
for 32-bit stuff
thanks
hi guys, im sure you've had this asked a dozen times, but is
there a decent doc for explaining the fedora upgrade path to 7
?
jduggan, stick the install media into the computer... boot
into the installer... do the upgrade
i run the i686 on my core2duo .. and i run x86_64 on my amd
because people think they need to run it and i need a running copy
to help them
and if i want to try it remotely?
jduggan, feel free to try it remotely
no dist-upgrade equivalent?
yum etc?
jduggan, some people can successfully use yum
yum upgrade at your own risk
jduggan, its not recommended
okay
jduggan, the installer has pxe and vnc support for a
reason
fsck, ok, i'll admit it. i like to see flash sites and
youtube. is this going to be a problem if i go x86_64 ?
has ne1 upgraded from FC5 to F7 while running OpenVPN? Do all
the security keys transfer successfully?
no.
yum install firefox-32
fsck, have you found anything in that arena that isn't on
x86_64 yet?
sure, but not having physical access to the box is a problem
:P
and use that instead of 64 bit
ok
thx for ur help
you can have x86_64 and use firefox-32 launcher to solve the
flash problem
fsck, thanks
jduggan, let me suggest to you... that if you do not have
physical access.... then upgrading any operating system has
enhanced risks
ujduggan, let me suggest to you... that if you do not have physical
access.... then upgrading any operating system has enhanced
risks/u
should you be running x86_64? .. the normal response is .. if
you have to ask and don't know why .. then no. it's only going to
cause you problems
fsck, ok
ofcourse it's enhanced, but so does walking down a street, i
only do remote dist-upgrades on OS's/distro's im confident with, i
have very little experience with redhat/rpm based distro's so i'll
give it a miss for now i think
im having trouble with 1440x900 resolution with ati, any
ideas?
1440x900 is distorted badly
i have an idea.
send ati an email and tell them that you're very disappointed
they neglect linux support for their cards
thats not true
and that you're not going to buy their products anymore
i just came over to fedora from ubuntu, ubuntu supports it
fine
i expected it to work
they don't have support for the new version of xorg yet
fedora doesnt?
ati doesn't
this is about ati and their closed source drivers .. not
fedora
i disagree
ubuntu is fine with it
ubuntu is not free
huh?
Fedora has moral standards
It also has the lastest xorg X server
yep.
Which version numbers fglrx gets confused on.
all i want to do is get 1440x900 to work
lol
then email ati .. or use ubuntu
somebody help me pls, how to delete routing table in fedora core
5.
fsck, good answer
what's wrong with 1440x900 ?
bronx, its distorted
bronx, all blocks and blurry
its stuck on 1024x768
f7?
yes
in the forums, others have the same problem
no solution yet
fc6, it's ok
http://www.fedorasolved.org/video-solutions/ati-yum-livna/
that doesnt work either, it returns with nothing to do
you're fabulous at not listening
Hi WB0TRA_work
fsck, read your own manual
can fedora handle a harddrive resize? i'm running raid 1 now
with 80gb, but i need more space, so i'm going to switch to raid 0.
will fedora handle that change or will i have to wipe and
reinstall?
anyone know an easy way to convert a flac file to an mp3? i
have livna's repository added, and i have 'lame' installed.. i
don't believe lame supports converting from flac, and i've fiddled
with ffmpeg and mplayer a bit but they both keep expecting video
input as well as audio :/
Hello
I'm taking tonight off from work. Will see if I can make time to
burn that F7 DVD.
jeef, tried soundconverter?
jeff, i have a script that will work for you, but you will
need to do like two modifications to it
try audacity
audacity, d'oh! good call!
soundconverter i have not heard of, maybe i should check that
out too
funny thing is i have audacity installed and i didn't even think
about it
yum install audacity-nonfree
BobJensen, did you write that wiki on the one i just
posted?
I was the initial author, because no one else would write
about the crappy ATi drivers
hah, well, whether they're crappy or not is not the point,
the point is that the livna repos isnt working as it
says
hey guys
anybody knows how gtk+2-devel is named in fedora 7?
audacity will definitely work. i wish i could script it to do
a whole directory of files, though.. :/
rpm -q kmod-fglrx
soundconverter doesn't seem to support flac, oddly
enough
I need that package so I can rebuild nspluginwrapper
plugin
fsck, yes i know its not installed
jeef, i have a script that will do that for you
yeah the ATi driver is not compatible with the version of
xorg in F7 as you were already told
i want to install it
no +
you have f7 .. you know why it says "nothing to do"
?
"nothing to do?" A: When yum reports "nothing to do" what it's
really saying is that the "package may already be installed" (or it
doesn't exist), so there's nothing for it to do. (ask directly: rpm
-q package).
used it a few days ago to convert all my wma files over to
mp3
i'm trying to convert a handful of flacs to mp3s for a
friend
jeef, really? maybe you're missing some plugins? lemme check
mine
sure? I see some gtk+ packages on the repo... ;=s
because fglrx ISN'T FSCKING SUPPORTED IN F7
took about 5 hours to convert almost 500 songs
not yet.
cry to ati
gtk+ is gtk 1, gtk2 is gtk 2.
better yet just don't buy ati
from what to what?
fsck, so you guys are saying the likelyhood of getting my
resolution in f7 is nil to none
what what. that sounds like a challenge. i might have to get my
ati going in f7 no
thanks!
converted 460+ wma files to mp3
+1 to not buying ATi
it's what we've been saying all along
works like a champ in fc6
you just don't listen because that isn't what you want to
hear
its really not necessary to flame or diss ati is it?
;=s... conversion from lossy to lossy is not so cool... you
loose quality ;=s
people don't hear what they don't want to
using mencoder..ffmpeg..?
yes it is
wow
using mplayer and lame
Fedora has zero control over the fglrx binary driver, only
ATI does, what choice is there if it don't work?
mplayer to convert to wav and lame from wav to mp3? SBNet|Laptop
?
i sent you the cisco modem/router
all of my songs started at 196 and i think ended at 128kb just
for quickness
i think, just a sec and i'll check my script
?? change nicknames often, mr opsec? hehe
hey! thanks a lot for that!
kinda spendy .. i think $30usd to send it
yeah, I know... it's not that cheap!
you can construct a gstreamer pipeline and just do the
convertion in gstreamer directly. something like: gst-launch
filesrc location=music.flac ! flacdec ! lame name=enc mode=0
vbr-quality=6 ! id3v2mux ! filesink location=music.mp3
yeah, mplayer from blah format to wav then lame to mp3
meh-hee-co ain't cheap
maybe you could have sent it in parts... in regular mail... you
know, 1 screw at a time?
haven't tested this, so it might not work, should give you an
idea on how to construct pipelines though
jeef, my soundconverter has support for flac
that's pretty awesome
lol, yeah, I know
mine won't let me open them for some reason
i'll try again though
yep, gstreamer is pretty powerful
jeef, there are some gstreamer plugins (maybe gstreamer08, i
don't remember )
that's the php script i made to do all the conversion, takes
about 20 seconds per song
i tried piping, but had troubles getting everything right, so i
just scripted it to do it a way i knew
you will have to change a little bit to work for you, like the
searching for wma files to flac
hmm
here we go, fiddled with things and toyed with gstreamer's libs,
and soundconverter works now it seems
great
thanks a boatload, everybody, i got multiple good
answers
I don't suppose anyone here has managed to get a Sony Digital
Walkman (nw-s202) to work under Linux ??
sorry to answer you with a rant, but sony is famous for
creating hardware that just doesn't work
I know, I have found a Java client app that works with 'some'
models of the digital walkman, but unfortunately it barfs all over
the nw-s202
I wouldn't touch sony hardware with a stick
i would.. just not an mp3 player
I can't believe it is actually worth the development costs to
build an MP3 player that does anything other than behave like a
mass storage device, and play the files on it, but no, Sony have to
encode everything to some bizarre OMA file format, and keep some
kind of weird index.
their laptops work like a charm with fedora
hey, um, does anyone know if there is a simple tool/tutorial
on setting up a kerberos server on a fedora host for fedora clients
and maybe even a winxp client?
Never again will I buy a device without checking for full
'open' Linux support
Hi people. I did a yum patch, and it was upstream. now I want
to know where it will be released? only in FC8?
erm...anyone from US here?
I need some help...
Yep
nope
hehe
we're all from mexico
i'm for US!!!!! SC to get right!!!!!
AHHHHHHH
sorry, thought the mexicans were attacking
that's it, amigos, linux was really a cover up project
developed in Meheeko
erm...I was registering for this aol service and they want
some US cell no to send the damn confirmation code.
DO NOT use AOL
can anyone help?
Torvalds is a good actor we found... he's actually from
venezuela
that is cheap for me man
you have a cell?
there is absolutely no compelling reason, there are other
providers that can give you better packages, and you won't be ties
into all their weirdness
I have almost complete my registeration, mate
SO, stop
I just need the confirmation code thats all
i have a us cell phone.. will i give you the number? no.
will do
oh come on someone help !
lol
sorry, I am really from México... hehehe... to to a
starbucks, man
never mind ...
Hmm....handing out a phone number to a random person on
IRC....dangerous? probably.
call a friend FlameBird
did it ever occur to you to try calling AOL?
i'm sure you know a friend with a cell
and explaining the situation
I am from India
what. they dont have phones in india?
they have
but the darn AOL wants US
Maybe you should try IOL
so why do you need a us cell?
lol
didn't you guys just open some development site here in
Guadalajara???
no idea mate
so... call aol and gripe to them
will try
chutiya
LOL
how can i get mplayer plugin to work?
where did you learn that?
maybe you could try #friendly or #trusters
or #chump
same place i learned bhenchhod, madarchhod, gaand etc
etc
What is the best solution. I need a Fedora network share that
both Linux and XP can access and it needs to be able to handle
concurrent reads and writes for a brutal prolonged
period.
or #suckersRus
you Indian?
NFS or SMB/
?
no, but i play one on tv
maybe DAV
lol
thanks anyways
DAV? That can be mounted locally on Linux and XP?
DAV is apache... apache is eclectic
its on my list of things to test, but afaik, yes
Test? I need this for a functioning prototype Thursday. I
don'thave time to test. I'm guessing NFS can't be seen from XP, so
I'll have to go with SMB?
FlameBird - You must have assumed a very low savvy level for
people on this channel. Why would anyone give a mobile phone number
to you. At the minimum, they would probably end up on yet another
call center list, and get midnight phone calls from the Kirby brush
man. God knows what kind of havoc a determined dick-head could
cause on a cell phone.
I completely understand
my cell number is 999.999.9999
feel free to call anytime
lol
sorry
i don't roll out anything without thourough testing first
and i have a list of to-dos a mile long
oh btw F7 is rocking!
I screwed gentoo for Fedora
Please, don't be sorry, I appreciate your help. And this is
just a demo, but I don't want the filesystem to blow up in th
emiddle of it.
"I do not think that word means what you think it means."
then i might suggest samba
Yes, I'll go with SMB and just throttle everything.
can anyone tell me how to configure advanced settings of the
xscreensaver in gnome on f7?
But you are sure that XP can not see an NFS mount?
Becuase wouldn't NFS be the most robust?
out of the box. nfs is not supported on xp
you can make it work with 3rd party tools, iirc
I don't know, but you can tell us what you're trying to
do
i dont touch windows in my job, so i dunno
What is my location of the directory of C header files that
match your running
kernel? [/usr/src/linux/include]
I almost didn't have to touch windows, but after 1.5 years of
avoiding it, they finally needed a display piece and went with
MatLab/ArcGis for Win32.
JohnMahowald, I was trying to configure "advanced" settings for
molecule screensaver, like spin speeds, and other things.
JohnMahowald, basicaly set the lunch args without searcing for
the .desktop files and editing them manually
has anybody here compiled nspluginwrapper on fedora 7?
is fedorasearch.org abandoned?
dunno, might talk to daMaestro about it
ok
is fedorasearch.org dead?
Which file tells fedora what its network name is?
is it worldwide lunch time?... Now that's what I call
synchronization! UTC isn't that accurate! ;
network in /etc/sysconfig
or host in /etc
not exactly sure which one off the top of my head
both are directories... files at the end... but I think you
could be more specific
big truck of dell computers came in, had to get some
/etc/hosts didn't seem to change the name on the command
line, and /etc/sysconfig is a dir of lots of config
files.
/etc/sysconfig/network
it is a file in it is hostname=blah
change that and that will change your hostname
woot, thanks SBNet|Laptop
[root@daniellaptop ~]# more /etc/sysconfig/network
NETWORKING=yes
HOSTNAME=daniellaptop
see!
lol
so, does anyone know if there is a simple tool/tutorial on
setting up a kerberos server on a fedora host for fedora clients
and maybe even a winxp client?
go to http://www.fedorasolved.org/ and
look for it
the search function atleast found nothing with the word
kerberos
well, try using the RHEL documentartion... it saved my life 100
times
i'll give you a link
great
https://www.redhat.com/docs/manuals/enterprise/
thanks
I consider those to be one of the best resources for our
distro
sure
http://www.eweek.com/article2/0,1759,2142494,00.asp
very positive review of fedora 7
df -h Avail 1.1T
I love it
maybe somebody could set up a google search limited to the
RHEL online docs
umaybe somebody could set up a google search limited to the RHEL
online docs/u
in google search
yeah, I know
but, if there was something available that spared me a few
keystrokes, i'd take it!
kerberos site:https://www.redhat.com/docs/manuals/enterprise/RHEL-5-manual/Deployment_Guide-en-US/
do you know if this feature can include multiple sites?...
hi all
hello
I've got a prob google can't seem to help me with
Renich, not sure.
and fedorasolved is of questionable use...
Yanroy, you should ask it then
no it isn't
I would like to make opengl work on my comp... I'm fairly
sure it's not working now
and I don't know how
Yanroy, can you run "glxgears" ?
video hardware?
no, "extension glx missing on display :0"
JohnMahowald, ati radeon mobility 9700
I don't want to install the ATI drivers if I can avoid it
Yanroy, ATI is broken at the moment.
when I had FC5, installing the ATI drivers totally hosed the
system
did you try drivers from livna?
Renich, under FC5, yes
I'm presently using F7
well, what a coincidence! Most people here are!
how about that?
hehe
Yanroy, you can never hose your system by installing graphics
drivers. Worst case scenario is you editing xorg.conf and putting
back the old drivers.
sorry, just being a bit sarcastic... haha
how do i disable ipv6 in the kickstart file?
ferrum, it permanently destroyed my ability to suspend, and
uninstalling the new drivers didn't fix it
edit it
ferrum, so you said ATI is broken "at the moment"... what do
you mean?
Renich, heh. thanks. know what switch i put in? know any place i
could find recent documentation of the kickstart options?
Yanroy, I'm not sure, it's just the Party line. I don't use
ATI. But from what I understand, it's a technical issue on ATI's
side, and the drivers are broken.
ferrum, I don't think I'm using the ati drivers. in my
xorg.conf, it says "radeon"
Yanroy, that's the open source driver from Xorg
Grummus, does it support opengl?
Yanroy, on some old chipsets yes
Yanroy, "man radeon"
Grummus, well, mine is 3+ years old... how do I find out if
it does/how to do it?
rafb.net/paste
Yanroy, glxinfo |grep direct
Grummus, linux interprets my radeon 9700 as "radeon 9600
M10", which the man page indicates (in an unclear way) that it may
be 2D only
Yanroy, do you want 3d desktop?
lspci | grep -i ati
no idea, try googleing
che, I want faster graphics, especially under wine
Yanroy, i see
Yanroy, the last command from che gives you an answer if you
have accelerated 3d
or F1 key
check this out: file:///usr/share/doc/system-config-kickstart-2.7.7/index.html
che's command spews error messages about the glx extension
not being present, so I assume I don't have accelerated
3d
yep
Yanroy, thats most probably because you are loading modules in
modules section
?
I'll put my xorg.conf up like fsck asked
Yanroy, if you dont have a modules section it will load all the
necassery modules
Yanroy, yeah
Yanroy, if you explicitly specify a module it will only load that
on
Yanroy, that was the behaviour last time i checked
che, with the fresh install (first boot) of F7, I had to X...
I had to do things to the xorg.conf to even make it work at all,
including adding a modules section
Yanroy, good idea
Renich, thanks just been looking online with no luck. i'm
just writing the files by hand so i didn't think of the docs with
the sysconfig program
Yanroy, after all updates applied you could try to go to init
3 and try again with system-config-display --reconfig
my xorg.conf: http://rafb.net/p/OD3VQs99.html
Yanroy, if that doesent work properly id suggest to open a
bugreport at bugzilla.redhat.com
Yanroy, the f7 Xorg autodetects nearly all things it needs,
only exception is the driver and the keyboard layout (and maybe
special mice/tablets/etc.)
I had a typo in my explanation about my first boot... it
didn't work at all, even the password screen didn't show up (but
the graphical boot did)
Yanroy, give me xdpyinfo please aswell
I messed with the xorg.conf using a friend's that uses an ATI
card as a template and made it work
Yanroy, and the exact output of glxinfo
Yanroy, with the current Xorg "less is more"
output of glxinfo http://rafb.net/p/reZnbj93.html
http://rafb.net/p/vlWCv415.html
I have a fully updated system as of last night
is there any way to make vsftpd not open additional ports other
than 21?
what other ports?
http://rafb.net/p/mwkHnG68.html
in passive mode, it seems to need other spt
true
you need at least 20,21
and others, for passive mode
fsck, what does this do?
I see
so that is the natire opf passive mode then?
or is it active mode
nature
I'd rather open port 20 and 21 than 21 and a bunch of
others
1024 on the server ? or is that passoive?
passive opens an additional port
not 21 or 20
apparently
yeah so a good firewall will detect the passive command and
auto-matically open the port
I think to make iptables do that you need to load a special
module
I thought the idea of passive mode was to prevent the inside
frmo opening a hole to the outside
from
for the *client*
1024 on the server (passive), or the server can connect to a
random port 1024 on the client (active)
ah
fsck, what is that snippet you directed me to for?
so which is more secure?
for who?
for the server
active i suppose
both are secure in principle
just trying to figure out which is best for firewall
support
iptables can connect PASV commands and open the port
automatically, so do most hardware firewalls
*detect, not connect
hrm, so iptables has support for this?
yes
just google iptables ftp
hey can any one tell me what what player will support to play
.mov (quicktime files) for me .. in my F7 ???
mplayer
moeSizlak it's not playing
and i'm interested to know also
is anyone else having probs with raid1 software raid on f7? I
am using 2 identical sata drives on an intel 945gccr board, no fake
raid or anything funky. after much trial and error I found I needed
to explicitly disable multipath support on the kernel boot line,
otherwise the drives show up as one mapper/mpath0
device
Hm, I don't guess anyone has a tool that will look at a stack
backtrace and tell you what debuginfo packages are required? Should
be pretty straightforward, but before I go re-inventing the
wheel...
you may need the binary codecs in /usr/local/lib/codecs
moeSizlak i can see the video in mplayer but it's not playing
the audio ...
do you have the binary codecs?
you need to d/l them from mplayer website
With the "bad" and "ugly" plug-ins to gstreamer, totem
actually seems to be able to play most things now. And
totem-mozplugin actually works okay
and put them in /usr/local/lib/codecs (NOT a subdirectory of
that)
moeSizlak nope .. ? tell me how can i get them ? .. by using yum
??? plz gave me the syntax
no yum
anyone know how to configure advanced settings of xscreensaver
(the args) on gnome+f7?
http://www3.mplayerhq.hu/MPlayer/releases/codecs/essential-20061022.tar.bz2
extract the files into /usr/local/lib/codecs (MAKE SURE NOT TO
PUT THEM IN ANY SUBDIRECTORY)
hi guys.. I m thinking of exchanging my Radeon X1550 with a
nVidia card with similar price/class.. any suggestions?
guolin, dont?
?
moeSizlak ok i am downloading them .. and then i am going to
place them ..
moeSizlak let's see what happen ... plz wait a little ...
moeSizlak hey right now tehre is no folder name codecs there in
/usr/local/lib ... tell me should i creat a new one there
???
is anyone else having probs with raid1 software raid on f7? I
am using 2 identical sata drives on an intel 945gccr board, no fake
raid or anything funky. after much trial and error I found I needed
to explicitly disable multipath support on the kernel boot line,
otherwise the drives show up as one mapper/mpath0
device
my samba share goes invisible on reboot, anyone else have this
problem?
moeSizlak hey man it's not running still .. giving the audio
error !
moeSizlak tell me what should i do next ??
anyone know how I add samba users via comman line/conf
file?
smbpasswd -a username ?
How do I rpmbuild a kernel source rpm with some changes to the
config file?
What is a umask that would allow read and write?
the config files are built from templates in the SOURCES
can someone think of a reason why running this small piece of
code would take 27 seconds instead of 0.5? http://pastebin.ca/562512
whats teh deal
whew, finally got the samba mounts working.....niiiiice
Is "love" too strong a word to use when talking about
Fedora?
hehe
can't really blame you, I suppose perlmonkey2
thanks!
it *is* awful nice.
I am consistantly reminded of that nearly every day
hehe
tried fusesmb ?
it'll just mount what samba shares it finds
and you may specify username and password etc..
moeSizlak i can's have the audio ...
moeSizlak how i play audio in that.. i can see the video now ..
but it's giving me problum in audio ...
whats the error message say (in console)
it might be ogg or something
hello guys
hello
moeSizlak r u there ?
moeSizlak i had pm u .. just see there
Hi, does any one in here uses dbdesigner?
http://fabforce.net/
Hi everyone!
Anyone have sound problems in F7?
Quick question - how do I keep the screensaver from locking the
computer?
Only when switching users.
hmm
try to configure it -_-
My sound was working just fine earlier today and now I have
nothing
Oh, geez, how did I miss that one!?
Thanks. Please pardon my total and complete stupidity. :P
brb I am going to try to logout and back in
Restart
I have already tried that one lol
See if that works. That's how I get mine working again.
Oh
I'm sure you get a ton of these question types, but I was
wondering how Fedora compares to Kubuntu's prelinking mechanism. My
RAM is filled because ubuntu preloads many libraries using
DT_GNU_HASH, which is nice.
After I booted into Vista from my dual boot my sound stopped
in F7
Have you tried autodetecting again? Vista may have changed the
IRQ.
ahh good point
I mean, I'm no Linux expert here and don't know if that's really
the case, but it's at least a lead.
ok brb I am going to try to reload the driver for it
I know this answer isn't much help, but I have no clue. Never
used Kubuntu.
thanks tyrok. I've been on Kubuntu for awhile but it's always
been buggy. I hear Fedora's KDE is much more
integrated.
KDE has always seemed to work very well for me under the Red
Hat distros. Haven't tried it in Fedora 7, but it's worked well for
me in the past.
Hi, does any one in here uses dbdesigner with fedora 6?
In Fedora 7, I've only really tried XFCE and GNOME.
Not much help, but I don't.
For that matter, I'm on F7, so I'm really just adding junk to
the bottom of your screen. :P
fwiw KDE is working mostly fine for me in F7
i have encountered a bug with kpowersave that prevents modifying
preferences
but that's about it
Is it possible to build a kernel for an FC6 box on an FC5 or
FC7 box?
Good to hear! I initially installed F7 text-only, so I've
kind of incrementally installed only the things I use the
most.
OS4x, personally.. i would use mock and make sure i had the
correct build environment for the target system
DrJef, I am not sure what mock is. I am searching on it but I
am not getting anything consistent. Could you tell me?
OS4x, there maybe some fedora release specific patches that the
fedora kernels use...to work around specific glibc quirks..ive no
idea
OS4x, mock is a way to rebuild rpms against a consistent build
environment
IIRC, there are RPMs for that sort of thing...Lemme go
check...
This may help:
http://sysadmin.cs.caltech.edu/docs/help/Linux/custom_kernel_rpm
Never done it myself, but it's something you can start
with.
Thank you for the link, I will study it closer, but at first
glace it looks like the same method I've tried two time in the past
and ran into a problem with.
Well, like I said, I've never done it before. You're a bit
more adventurous than I.
in the past couple days i've tried building kernel RPMs (just
to test) and the process ate up all the free space on my hard-drive
(3+GBs!) so I guess I need to make more room if I'm going to be
able to do this.
this may be true. I've learned I have to put in work to find my
answer
Whoa. IIRC, the kernel should be much smaller than that. I'd
check your build environment, because it sounds like infinite
recursion or an infinite loop.
Yeah, it happened on two different systems. One was FC5, the
other FC6. Neither was related to the other in any way
Looks like the stock fc5 kernel is around 45MB, so that's way
off.
Odd. Although I've never rebuilt the kernel like that, RPM
building usually works very well for me.
Do you need to rebuild it, or do you just need to replace it? In
other words, would the stock kernel work?
Yeah... the only thing I could figure is that like I probably
have a reallllly terrrible config file like it's trying to include
all of the world or something
I actually need to rebuild it, unfortunately. I need to make a
change and rebuild it
As I had anti-hoped. :P
anyone using l7 filter?
im beating my head against my desk trying to get rpmbuild to
incorporate the l7-filter patch for 2.6.18 into the stock fc6
kernel rpm
Try this link:
http://www.howtoforge.com/kernel_compilation_fedora
i can patch the build source, then make a custom patch for
the fedora kernel. but adding this to the spec file dies on the
configure
Thats actually the guide I HAVE been following.
We're working through some FC6 kernel compile issues with
OS4x, so you've picked a good time to ask.
its something to do with the new options in menuconfig
Gaah, I had hoped MAYBE we could somehow help you.
Are you filmilar with with doing rpmbuilds of kernels?
yes
anyone know anything bout fonts? I have some fonts that are
available for window manager configs and stuff, but rxvt won't see
them
except now, apparently
OK, another thing to check. Are you modifying it yourself, or
using a patch from somewhere?
initially the problem was the .config for i686 didnt have the
# i386 line at the top (weird way to do things, btw)
Maybe you could help me. I've been trying to do an RPM build and
for some reason the build/compiling process starts eating up gigs
of space as it proceeds along
are you specifying the target arch?
its going to take a couple gigs to do a full build
ha... now they work... wtf
Didja try restarting the X font server (I think it's called
xfs)?
I'd like to launch xterm with my choice of font sizes, but
'xterm -fs num' doesn't seem to make a difference. any ideas what
my stupid is?
yeah, rebooted for the hell of it
Umm.. I'm just making a change during xconfig. So no patching
really.
just removed them for the 5th time and reinstalled, and now
rxvt see's em
Terminal doesn't though
Does it compile OK without the config change? Just compiling
the stock kernel?
are you specifying --target=`uname -m`
Sounds like you two both have similar problems.
it's weird... cause this is the third box I've been using F7
with and I didn't have this issue before
dmesg
also. after a make xconfig, you copy the .config to SOURCES.
make sure the top line is "# i386"
Glad you're here. I've never rebuilt the kernel before, only
other programs, so I'm kind of just going down the list of anything
I can think of.
its a bit more in depth than most programs
but not too bad
Uh, yeah, I ain't that adventurous.
i need l7filters. im tired of people eating my 20megs of
bandwidth streaming music and other silliness
Hello .. can someone please tell me what the GTK-gui package
name is for wireshark?
I was specifying "rpmbuild -bp --target=i686 kernel-2.6.spec"
and "rpmbuild -bp --target=x86_64 kernel-2.6.spec" (becuase thats
what the 2 systems identified itselfs as).
ok. what exactly is the problem. i missed it...\
But aparently that step is the application of the patches
huh?
yum search -d0 shark
The included fedora patches, anyway.
gosh, where are all the old-timers?
Thanks
Unfortunately, they got sick of all of us new-timers asking
the same questions and decided to blind themselves so they wouldn't
sit on IRC all day. :P
Cupu, wireshark-gnome
hehe tyrok
Found it, thanks
The problem began with running out of space before it could get
anything done. I had 3 GIGs free and it ate them all. I do believe
this was happening during the rpmbuild command
Well, it must seem obvious now, but I have no idea how to
help you with the l7 stuff. In fact, I'd never even heard of it up
until you asked.
May not be helpful, but it's at least a response.
I don't really know, but there may be some kind of a
config-parsing bug that's getting you stuck in an infinite loop or
something.
I've compiled a lot of things, my own programs and others, but
never the kernel.
But I know when I'm stuck, I'd rather hear suggestions on where
to start than total silence.
what tool do u guys use for iptables log viewing?
Anyway, whether the config is selectively applying built-in
patches of some sort, or it's just getting stuck, other people have
compiled it before, so I'd say that's probably the source of the
problem.
Yeah. I guess besides the other new information I've picked
up today, It would be helpful to know whats a failsafe way to get a
kernel built even if its not even customized as I need it.... ya
kno, just to get started and filmilar how a successful build
goes.
mutk, ping
I'd recommend that you follow the instructions in the first
link, download an SRPM and build it, but just don't apply
it.
daMaestro, Pong
Well, I've gotta get going. See ya!
later tyrok
When you say 'dont apply it' you mean dont install it,
right?
well either way ill try it
thanks alot ppl
ttyl
this install is possesed
for some reason when I drag windows, they go transparent
it's a feature!
yeah, but I didn't set it supposedly it's set to not do
that
man composite is awesome
compiz+aiglx?
just aiglx
hello, is the ATI driver still broken?
ask ati
arnt fedora tm responsible for drivers in fedora?
no
not closed source
yes. ati drivers are not in fedora
but they're in lvna
is there a way to play .wv file in totem?
livna != fedora
well, livna is responsible for livna.
why is this driver broken, does have to do with xorg?
indeed it does
same as all the other distros
this isnt right this should be fixed pronto
it's not the same, it's new version no other distro uses
yet
tell ati
so your saying teh driver isnt compatible with a newer
version of xorg?
yes
and ati will resolve it when or if they will, and there's
nothing anyone else can do about that
nice, just ran glxinfo and X tanked
they're the only ones that can fix it
will it do any good
it certainly won't do any good to blame fedora
or any of the open source developers
yes, blame canada instead.
ahem
hehe
lol
i just thaught that fedora tm was responsible for 3rd party
drivers, cos they dont recommend proprietry drivers
bi just thaught that fedora tm was responsible for 3rd party
drivers, cos they dont recommend proprietry drivers/b
that's better
Blame AMD for buying ATi and making it even more un
reliable
why do you think they're called _third_ party drivers?
because theres been 3 release parties for the same
driver?
coz they're repackadge for fedora?
this is why they end up in lvna
which makes then non-proprietary?
exactly
no, they remain proprietary
dude, I want some of whatever you're on
but they are redistributable in unmodified form
for under $100 your suicidal feelings can be made to
vanish.
and when they are broken and you cannot modify them,
certainly fedora must be responsible
why not just buy an inexpensive nvidia card? I say, go with
the flow.
non sequitor...
it's times like this I love the fact that my laptop is a
force 6150
ok i misunderstud the concept for a few seconds
thingfish, that doesn't work when you have a laptop issued by
your employer
in may cases, we at Livna can fix bugs
that would be true.
in this current case, the problem is with a binary file for
which the source is unavailable
why doesnt fedora wait for ATI to move, before they comit
themselves
is the fglrx 8.37.6-1 in livna-testing supposed to work? I
still get the same core dump
yes...?
why dont fedora work around ATI
Livna have not committed themselves. the current driver is in
Livna testing
why don't you go bug ati instead
the problem is with a binary file
elZip, i stuck with vesa drivers but its not really fedora's
problem to track third party drivers. And this fiasco actually
points out the problems with binary blobs
hehe oops, unplugged the wrong cord.
lol if fedora waited on ati for a driver then we would stil
be on core 3
not quite, but your point is valid
lol
ok ok so I was a little off core 2
lol
hehe
did they ever realse a good driver for 6?
I havent used an ATI card in linux for a few years
now
this is the first time, to my knowledge, we've been unable to
find a usable workaround
I use nvidia cards, and never once have I had a problem.
bitchkat, f7?
daMaestro, yes
bitchkat, fglrx is known not working.. and we wont see it
working till ATi fixes it
Nvidia's policies wrt to their driver are quite different.
they make sure upstream, current stuff works
it is not fixed in 8.37.6, if that is what you are
asking
daMaestro, i know that, i was just wondering about the 8.37.6
drivers in livna-testing
gotta wait for 8.38
that package fixes the Xorg version issue... but not any of
the real underlying issues
there's your rhyme ..
I just wish my sound worked lol
whereas ATi focus on specific Linux vendors
anyone else have a problem with the onbaord nvidia sound
cards?
and hw vendors too
the MCP51 High Def card to be exact
Say, is there an F-7-LiveCD for PPC?
Anyone know of a way to rate limit yum, like a plugin?
nvidia seems to be having more success with their approach.
at least, from general impressions.
usually it's the other way around
is there hp-toolbox for fedora?
Edgan, i can't believe that yum is downloading too fast for
you that you want to slow it down
sounds like someone is updating at a colo and about to go
over their limit lol
man, this is the first fedora I've tried in years that makes me
forget debian.
yeah, but I have a T1 with a bandwidth shaper on it for VOIP.
A download starts and two seconds later everyone is whining about
slow internet.
yup
f7 is just so fine
anyone using firefox 1.5.0.12 having issues installing
addons?
What happened to #fedora-gals? There's too many dudes
here.
:/
thingfish, what fedora does good at is being an OS. It does
what you want it to with minimal bull thats associated with other
unstable distros
#fedora-gals or #fedora-women ?
thats it
There is probably a way to rate limit yum but I don't know
what it is. I run my own repository... and use mod_cband with
apache to rate limit downloaders.
there's never anyone on #fedora-women and i think there has
been a total of 15 things said since it was started
lol
yeah, I have run my own repository, but wouldn't worry about the
local network if I was in this case.
are they cute?
jimblah, eh?
are fedora-women cute?
Granted... but rate limiting the outside world is a good
idea.
jimblah, i think the question to ask is are women who use Linux
cute?
So... no on the PPC LiveCD availability?
I think not.. just because cute women have little interest in
computers let alone qaulity OSes
do u live in your parents basement?
fedora-women could be especially cute...
more interested in taking mens money
lol
THATS MY WIFE TO A T!
Xaero_Vincent, i make *alot* more money that my ex-husband ever
did
lol
my wife is computer iliterate
so is my ex-husband
flirting could ease my depression over this ati/xorg
thing
I'm just glad I know enought to use Linux
wow
I will not flirt with u
not even for fun?
bitchkat, well there are always exceptions to the rule
your in the same situation as me
I like Fedora?
elZip, then maybe you should flirt with jimblah
i like fedora but havnt tried f7
It hasn't really been released yet
ffdshow ... is it recommended and is it yumable?
yes it has
Wait for the respin
i'm contemplating a f7 install
f7 is almost 2 weeks old
im still on f6 because of ATI drivers
but Im moving when they are fixed
snd-hda-intel doesnt work for my ati sb450 sound card
http://article.gmane.org/gmane.linux.redhat.fedora.general/246998
is the only workaraound for fglrx on F7
